On Saturday, a ceremony was held in the Hall of the Main Building of the University of Debrecen, where research degrees and honorary titles were awarded. At the event 96 new doctors representing 5 areas of science received their degrees, and the Habilitation, Professor Emeritus, Civis honoris causa and Doctor honoris causa titles were also awarded.

A new solution jointly developed by the University of Debrecen, Delta Services and Sightspot Network will make the diagnosis of cervical cancer faster and more reliable, allowing doctors to start treatment at an early stage. The new solution is an image-based diagnostic system, which is able to identify cancer cells based on deep learning technology.

A special research and education oriented organizational unit has been established by NI Hungary at the Faculty of Informatics of the University of Debrecen in order to assist students enrolled in Computer Science, Business Informatics and Computer Science Engineering BSc and MSc programs. In addition, the US-based company has also supported the installment of a new computer laboratory through a donation worth more than 4 million HUF.

Avram Hershko, a world famous chemist from Israel has received this year’s University of Debrecen Science Impact Award (uDEsia) at UD. The Nobel laureate researcher received the university’s highest scientific award from László Csernoch, vice rector for scientific affairs.

Students who are currently enrolled in the English-language programs offered by the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) were given presentations at an event organized by the International Student Union (ISU) on the academic work conducted at the FST, the possibilities for getting involved in TDK (Student Scientific Conference) and on the talent management programs conducted by the university.

The entries that had made it to the final of the students’ competition on the subject of the psychological aspects of human-robot interactions were exhibited and awarded at the Department of Psychology of the University of Debrecen on Thursday. The programme was also a contribution of the Faculty of Humanities to the university’s Neurotech project.

The new software in the equipment pool of the Faculty of Informatics at the University of Debrecen is routinely used in research and development related to autonomous vehicles and artificial intelligence. The special piece of equipment inaugurated on Thursday will assist the vehicle research activities of the institution, which are of strategic significance.

The University of Debrecen is further strengthening its cooperation based on knowledge transfer with Uzbekistan. Rector Zoltán Szilvássy, held talks with Ambassador Abat Fayzullaev on education and R&D cooperation in the fields of pharmaceutical science and industry, as well as agricultural science.

The University of Debrecen is among the best 500 universities in the new QS World Rankings in the subject area of sciences. UD has maintained its leading position among Hungarian universities in the field of agricultural sciences (201-250.), and is still in the 351-400 range in the medical sciences ranking of the prestigious London-based organization.

Elias Arnér, a biochemist from the renowned Karolinska Institute of Stockholm, has visited the University of Debrecen to give a presentation on his area of research. Professor Arnér, who is also a member of Tudományos és Társadalmi Tanácsadó Testület (TTTT), an academic and social advisory body to support the work of the president of the Board of Trustees of Count István Tisza Foundation for the University of Debrecen, was the first “instructor” to register a grade in the symbolic grade book of TTTT following his talk.
