The University of Debrecen celebrated the beginning of the new academic year with a full-house event at the Nagyerdei Stadium on Wednesday. In addition to Hungarian stars, artists of the Institute of Pop Music and international students of the oDEon company also gave concerts. About 20,000 people attended the 6th year-opening stadium show of UD.

The Confucius Institute of the Faculty of Humanities of UD celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival with an exhibition of Chinese artworks. Tea ceremony and traditional mooncake awaited visitors at the event, where new teachers of the Institute were also introduced.

Saturday evening, the newly formed Zoltán Kodály World Youth Orchestra, conducted by Tamás Vásáry, gave a very successful concert at Kölcsey Center as the closing act of the 21st Young Musicians’ Summer Academy. About 200 young people from nineteen countries participated in this year’s event of the Faculty of Music.
This year’s Campus Festival set a new record: more than 116,000 people attended one of Hungary’s largest summer cultural events, the organisers announced on Monday. There was also much interest in the festival’s university-related programs. Tens of thousands of people visited the booths and the stage of the University of Debrecen during the four days of the festival.
As a result of the general admission procedure, a total of 6,502 first-year students can start their studies from September in the Hungarian-language programmes of the University of Debrecen. The number of students admitted in 2022, including additional admissions, students from abroad, as well as those admitted to the English-language courses, is expected to reach 10,000 by September.
The athletes of the University of Debrecen are already in Poland, at the venue of the European University Games. In the following days, UD's futsal players, water polo players, tennis players and jugglers will compete in Lódz.
The eight pilots – from Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Hungary, Mongolia, Turkey and Ukraine - who were the first in the history of the University of Debrecen and the faculty to graduate after completing the "Professional pilot" training, received their diplomas at the ceremony of the Technical Faculty of the University of Debrecen.

The Faculty of Humanities of the University of Debrecen released the first Chinese students who completed the Hungarian-language BA course in Hungarian language and literature at the speech day event held in the Main Building of UD on Friday. The 12 Chinese graduates started their studies in Debrecen three years ago within the framework of an international educational programme.
The organising committee responsible for the events of the 2024 European University Games (EUG) that will take place in Debrecen held its meeting in Mád. At the event specific organisational tasks and their owners were identified, and the preparation of the feasibility study began. The Faculty of Informatics of the University of Debrecen offers courses to prepare students for Microsoft’s cloud-based artificial intelligence and Azure international industry certification exams. The courses, which are available both in English and in Hungarian, will help students to successfully complete these competitive international exams.
The section responsible for higher education of OECD’s Education Directorate had a coordination meeting with the leadership representatives on the digitalization efforts of the University of Debrecen in the framework of the project Minőségi digitális felsőoktatás biztosítása Magyarországon [Support for Quality Digital Higher Education in Hungary]. Campus, probably the cushiest summer festival in Hungary, will offer a variety of cultural and artistic events and a colorful medley of popular music on as many as nine stages and six more premises this year. The application of the University of Debrecen for students has been expanded with new functions. As a result of the improvements, the system sends users the most important information in push messages, with the UD Community Space creating a new way for students for ongoing contact.
The gift shop of the University of Debrecen is now open at a new location: on the ground floor of the recently inaugurated Learning Center. The opening hours of the new UD Shop, which takes up a much larger floor space than it used to have in the Main Building, are Monday to Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
Liu Shaoang, a Sports Manager major at the University of Debrecen, has made history in the 500-meter short track speed skating final event at the Winter Olympic Games held in Beijing. The start-to-finish victory of the 23-year-old athlete meant the first gold medal for Hungary in the history of the Winter Olympic Games.
Nobel Prize-winning American scientist and pharmacologist Louis Joseph Ignarro, professor at the University of California, Los Angeles, who shared the 1998 Nobel Prize in medicine for his discovery of the physiological effects of nitric oxide, as well as members of the Nobel Prize Committee, professors from renowned foreign universities, Hungarian academicians, university professors, the former rector of the University of Debrecen and a number of internationally renowned experts have accepted the invitation to become members of the Scientific and Social Advisory Board established for the further development of the University of Debrecen.
A spectacular time-lapse video has been made to present the construction works of the Learning Center. The construction of the multifunctional learning center of the University of Debrecen began in the spring of 2020.
Mobility, study abroad and internship opportunities were presented to the students of the University of Debrecen at the Foreign Exchange on the #ErasmusDays in the cloister of the Main Building. This year's exchange focused on the opportunities offered by the Erasmus + programme.
A sponsorship agreement of one hundred million forints was signed by the UD and ITK Ltd. Within the cooperation the company group offered two Mercedes-Benz self-propelled chassis and a Mercedes-Benz passenger car for the UD and Debrecen Vocational Training Centre.
