With the graduation ceremony of the Faculty of Medicine coming first, a series of winter commencement ceremonies at the University of Debrecen will begin this weekend.

Giacomo Maria Oliva, Deputy Director of the museum Museo di Reggio Calabria in Italy, gave a talk in Italian on Wednesday at the University of Debrecen titled Bronzi di Riace. The topic he covered was the (hi)story of the ancient Greek bronze statues that had been discovered in the sea near the Calabrian city of Riace in 1972.
The University of Debrecen has recently organized the scholarly-scientific conference of its colleges for advanced studies for the fourth time. At the event held in Debrecen Academic Committee Headquarters on Tuesday, students from seven disciplines gave account of their latest findings in as many as five different sections. The speakers delivering English and Hungarian presentations represented the colleges for advanced studies active in our institution and at Partium Christian University.

The University of Debrecen celebrated the beginning of the new academic year with a full-house event at the Nagyerdei Stadium on Wednesday. After two years, Erasmus students have arrived to the University of Debrecen again. The number of foreign students at the University of Debrecen continues to grow. In September, more than two thousand students will begin their studies on the university’s English language courses. In the academic year 2022/23, it is expected that more than 7,200 people, more than a fifth of the foreign students studying in Hungary, will be studying at the University of Debrecen.
Saturday evening, the newly formed Zoltán Kodály World Youth Orchestra, conducted by Tamás Vásáry, gave a very successful concert at Kölcsey Center as the closing act of the 21st Young Musicians’ Summer Academy. About 200 young people from nineteen countries participated in this year’s event of the Faculty of Music.
As a result of the general admission procedure, a total of 6,502 first-year students can start their studies from September in the Hungarian-language programmes of the University of Debrecen. The number of students admitted in 2022, including additional admissions, students from abroad, as well as those admitted to the English-language courses, is expected to reach 10,000 by September.

Graduates from the program in medicine took their oath on Friday at the University of Debrecen. Having completed their course of studies either in Hungarian or in English, more than a hundred and twenty of them received their diplomas at the ceremonial convocation of the Faculty of Medicine.
