The title of MD has been conferred to graduating students of medicine

Graduates from the program in medicine took their oath on Friday at the University of Debrecen. Having completed their course of studies either in Hungarian or in English, more than a hundred and twenty of them received their diplomas at the ceremonial convocation of the Faculty of Medicine.

“On this pivotal day of your life, the first thought that goes through your mind should be about those who have assisted you in the process of becoming medical doctors,” said Dean László Mátyus at the beginning of his opening address.

In his speech, Professor Mátyus underlined the following: graduates from UD can be proud of the fact that that they have received their medical education and their degrees here, at one of the largest and most prestigious universities in the nation, more specifically, at its Faculty of Medicine, which is among the highest ranked institutions of tertiary education in the whole of Europe.

“The University of Debrecen has always been an exemplar of stability as well as continuous development and growth. Debrecen has always been open to new ideas, while we have managed to sustain the age-old values embedded in our program of medicine. As ever, we are also ready now to develop further even among shifting and changing external circumstances,” said the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine.

László Mátyus also emphasized that the current graduates would have the necessary state-of-the-art expertise enabling them to meet the ever-demanding requirements that medical doctors are subject to. During the course of the pandemic, they have demonstrated that they are worthy of their vocation as doctors not only through their professional competence but also through their humane attitude. However, to live up to the expectations is never easy; as it requires lifelong education and training.

At the ceremonial event on Friday, 49 Hungarian and 78 foreign students took their oath upon completing their studies in the programs offered by the Faculty of Medicine of the University of  Debrecen, following which they received their diplomas.

“From this point onwards, it is your obligation to preserve the prestige of your vocation that you have acquired through your academic efforts. You are also expected to build and promote the prosperity of your specific fields of competence as well as that of our country and the University of Debrecen, whose graduates you have now become,” said Vice Rector of Academic Affairs László Csernoch in his speech.

At the ceremonial convocation, Department Head László Márk was awarded the title honorary university professor upon the nomination of the Faculty Council of the Faculty of Medicine for his remarkable educational and academic efforts exerted in the interest of the University of Debrecen as well as for his outstanding medical activities.

Graduating medical student Kothalawala Edward Saman was awarded the title Excellent Student of the University of Debrecen for his outstanding academic achievements.
