The University of Debrecen has been ranked as the best Hungarian higher education institution in both the natural and social sciences in the Times Higher Education 2024 thematic rankings. The institution has also improved its position in the field of informatics in the list recently published by the renowned British rankings.

The issues discussed at the meeting held in the Rector's Office of the University of Debrecen on Tuesday included points of connection between the health care systems of the University of Debrecen and the University of Tibet, the possibilities of future cooperation and the organization of emergency and cardiovascular care. The Tibetan delegation was received by Zoltán Szabó, Vice Rector and President of the Clinical Centre and Okszána Kiszil, Director of Coordination and Strategy.

The Vietnamese Ambassador to Hungary has discussed cooperation opportunities combining Eastern and European cultures and the possibility of increasing the number of Vietnamese students enrolled at the University of Debrecen. During the course of his visit to Debrecen, Nguyen Thi Bich Thao also met the Vietnamese students studying here.

The “youngest” Austrian library in Hungary, Debreceni Ausztria Könyvtár [Austria Library of Debrecen], celebrated the thirtieth anniversary of its opening recently. The University and National Library of the University of Debrecen [DEENK] held a festive symposium on the occasion of this jubilee, where attention was drawn to the colorful cultural offer of the Austrian library's stock and the possibilities of bibliothecas as cultural hubs.

Two institutions of higher education located in Shanghai, China, wish to map up cooperation opportunities with the University of Debrecen in the fields of engineering education and research. The delegations also have held talks with the management of the Faculty of Engineering.

Astana IT University and a Kazakh clinical network are searching for opportunities to cooperate with the University of Debrecen in the field of dual degree system and medical education. The delegation that arrived on Tuesday also visited the Centre for International Education Coordination and the Faculty of General Medicine.

The University of Debrecen is among the top 800 institutions of higher education in the latest rankings of Times Higher Education. More than 1,900 higher education institutions from 28,000 universities around the world were ranked in THE World University Rankings 2024, published on Wednesday. The ranking is based on their teaching and research activities, international reputation, industrial income and patents.

More participants than ever before welcomed the most recent academic year at the seventh yoUDay stadium show hosted by the University of Debrecen. As many as 23,000 people were partying together at the event, which is unique in Europe and where singers and musicians like Dzsúdló, Valmar, György Korda and Klári Balázs performed, among others.

In keeping with tradition, on Thursday, the International Office of the University of Debrecen and the Student Committee for Foreign Affairs of the institution welcomed 130 students from 21 countries who had arrived in the framework of the Erasmus scholarship program with a Welcome Dinner in the Main Building's Lobby.

During the one month of the event close to a hundred students obtained their certificates at the Summer University of Debrecen, 52 in the first two weeks, and 43 after the second one. Most of them completed a written examination, but oral exams were also available.

The University of Debrecen is to receive 4.41 billion in government funding in several phases for the construction of the Vehicle Laboratory and the associated mini test track for certain educational and innovation developments at the Debrecen Automotive Centre. The complex will be built in the institution's Science, Technology and Innovation Park in Vezér Street. The construction site was taken over on Monday by the contractor HUNÉP Zrt.

The renovation and expansion of the University of Debrecen's Faculty of Science and Technology has begun. The aim of the modernisation of the educational unit in Ótemető Street is to provide the DE with the highest level of infrastructure for the practical and theoretical education of technical engineers, in line with the city's leading role in the automotive industry. A new wing will be added to the complex, increasing its surface area by almost 4 500 square metres.

The University of Debrecen and the BMW Group Gyár Debrecen have entered into a collaboration that covers professional training and research and development. The agreement was signed on Tuesday by Rector Zoltán Szilvássy and President and CEO Hans-Peter Kemser.

The management of the University of Debrecen and Kazakhstan's Astana IT University discussed the preparation of a complex agreement concerning education, research and economic development. The honorary consul of Hungary to Kazakhstan also attended the online meeting.

A delegation from Fujian Province on the southeastern coast of China came to our city recently to learn about the history of our institution, its program offers and research activities that harmonize with the requirements of industrial enterprises and the admission opportunities for students from abroad to the University of Debrecen. The members of the delegation visited the university together with the leaders of Self-Government of Hajdú-Bihar County (Hajdú-Bihar Vármegyei Önkormányzat).

The summer graduation ceremonies at the University of Debrecen will begin soon. More than four thousand graduates will receive their degrees at the ceremonies held between June 17 and July 8.

As the best Hungarian university, the University of Debrecen made it to the top 400 in Times Higher Education's latest rankings that assess universities against the UN's Sustainable Development goals (SDGs). On the famous British ranking Tier list, the institution made significant progress in three categories and overall. UD is now among the first 100 in the Partnerships for Goals category.

In addition to meeting South African students enrolled at the University of Debrecen, the high-ranking members of a delegation from the Republic of South Africa have learned about the program offer of our institution and the scholarship opportunities available through Stipendium Hungaricum.

Eight leading higher education institutions of Uzbekistan are seeking opportunities for cooperation with the University of Debrecen in the fields of pharmaceutics, agricultural and economic sciences. The delegation of the eight universities’ leaders has visited several relevant faculties.

The Finnish ambassador to Hungary and the deputy Israeli ambassador arrived at the University of Debrecen on Wednesday for an introductory and familiarization visit. Vice Rector for Education Elek Bartha received the Finnish diplomat in the morning and the Israeli diplomat in the afternoon in the rector's council room of the Main Building.

Ágnes Bene, assistant professor of the Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of Debrecen, discussed the latest tasks and challenges of gerontology in Brussels at the meeting of the working committee of AGE Platform Europe, the European Commission's consultative body.

A joint exhibition of the University and National Library of the University of Debrecen (DEENK) as well as the Event Coordination and Alumni Centre present the processes of the shaping of the Main Building of UD in close to fifty spectacular photos. The photographs on display on panels and installations on all floors of the university show the construction in an interactive way.

His Excellency Mr. Ali Hadi Hameed Al-Bayati, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Iraq to Hungary, has discussed issues including the increasing the number of Iraqi students enrolled at the University of Debrecen and the opportunities for cooperation in research and development with Rector Zoltán Szilvássy. During his official visit, Ali Hadi Hameed Al-Bayati also met Iraqi students at our university.

Continuing the already existing joint training programs, introducing student and teacher exchanges, offering double degree programs and initiating curriculum development are just a sample of the issues discussed at the meeting last Friday when a delegation from Beijing University of International Studies (BISU) was received by the representatives of the Rector’s Office of the University of Debrecen and the Dean’s Office of the Faculty of Humanities.
