The Iranian Ambassador to Hungary visited the University of Debrecen on May 8 in order to learn about its multidisciplinary training and research portfolio, its international network of partners and its continuously growing industrial network of connections. At a meeting with Rector Zoltán Szilvássy and Director of Coordination and Strategy Okszána Kiszil, H.E. Morteza Moradian highlighted the priority he attaches to promoting scholarly-scientific cooperation between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Hungary.
“The extraordinarily broad range of activities pursued at the University of Debrecen allows us to establish several partnerships in a number of different fields, including the humanities, law, economics, medicine and dentistry,” said the Ambassador.
Rector Zoltán Szilvássy informed the diplomat about our university's successful cooperation with Iran already under way, which covers the development and production of functional therapeutic types of food.
“There are further partnership opportunities available in the fields of technology and engineering. One of our recent international achievements in this respect was that the student teams from the University of Debrecen came first in Rosatom’s Central Europe Russian-Hungarian online nuclear energy problem-solving competition a few years ago, and UD has a close and ongoing relationship with Tomsk Polytechnic University, Russia's leading technical university.”
Rector Zoltán Szilvássy and Ambassador Morteza Moradian agreed on further talks and consultations in the future to promote relations with Iran, while they also raised the idea of setting up an Iranian-Hungarian university cooperation team.
The Iranian diplomat also met with Iranian students who currently study at the University of Debrecen during his visit on Wednesday. At present, there are 325 international students from the Southwest Asian country who go to UD, the highest number of which are at the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Dentistry and the Faculty of Pharmacy.
