The UD has acquired a set of new instruments unique in Hungary and Central Europe. The special instruments, purchased with the use of grant sources in the amount of HUF 885 million, will provide the technological background, among other things, for cancer research.

Students of the University of Debrecen earned a prestigious recognition in the finals of the CARPE Challenge project idea competition, organized in the Spanish city of Valencia, between 23-25 October, by the Consortium on Applied Research and Professional Education.

The University of Debrecen (UD) has finished in second position among Hungarian institutions of higher education on the overseas Best Global Universities ranking list. UD has excelled at biology, and biochemistry as well as chemistry and medicine.

A joint Big Data research lab has been established by the University of Debrecen and the Guangxi University of Finance and Economics. The two institutions are also planning to launch dual degree programmes in IT, Economics and Mathematics.

Two students of the Faculty of Economics of the University of Debrecen can participate in the final of the CARPE Challenge in Valencia in October after they have won the universities’ round on September 4 with their idea in the field of transport development.

Preserving its position last year, the UD is among the best 1000 universities this year again, according to the Academic Ranking of World Universities also known as the Shanghaj list. The Chinese ranking list examines and lists universities based on academic results and the number of citations.

The University of Debrecen has been ranked in the top 4% by the Center for World University Rankings, which measures the performance of 20.000 institutions of higher education worldwide. The university was ranked 724 on the CWUR Ranking List published Monday.

The special fluoresent compounds developed by the researchers of the Department of Applied Chemistry of the faculty of Science and technology, University of Debrecen, can also be used in cancer diagnostics, cell biology, and analytics.

Two new, a medical and and ecological, „Lendület” research groups will be established at the UD, in addition to the ten that are already operating successfully. The 16 winning candidates were announced at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences to receive a total of 540 million HUF this year.

The Clinical Centre of the UD conducts research in the field of the Higher Education Excellence Programme using the most up-to-date technology of MI, Big Data, and cloud computing. Teaching of the novel methods, with the participation of Microsoft Magyarország Kft., ended on Wednesday.

A structural testing and analytical instrument centre, unique in Hungary, has been established at the Department of Chemistry of the Faculty of Science and Technology, University of Debrecen. The total value of the three up-to-date instruments exceeds 780 million HUF.

The most recent results in the decisive branch of complex chemistry, the production and examination of metal complexes have been presented at the International Symposium on Metal Complexes 2019, which has also been awarded the title Debrecen University Symposium.

An international conference will be held at the Faculty of Information Technology of the UD on several topics of the rough set theory, from data phishing to medical image processing. This is the first time the conference has been organised in Hungary.

UD has decided that the University of Debrecen Science Impact Award will go to biochemist Arieh Warshel this year. The Nobel Prize laureate professor, who has been working with researchers at UD for years, will receive the award from rector Zoltán Szilvássy on Friday.

Times Higher Education, Quacquarelli Symonds - with the participaion of the most prestiguous higher education ranking organisations a 3-day forum began on Tuesday entitled Higher Education Ranking at UD.

An English-language doctoral thesis made by a Ph.D. student of the Department of Botany of UD has won the first place award of the European Federation For Freshwater Sciences (EFFS). The dissertation deals with the role of migratory waterbirds in the dispersal of plants and invertebrates.

Researchers at the University of Debrecen have completed the most comprehensive analysis to date on the host use by brood parasitic butterflies. It took ten years of work to compile the report in the form of a database containing of the efforts and findings of as many as 40 scientists.

How does the stress genes composition of a fungal species determine its stress tolerance? A research group at UD has studied the behaviour of pathogens of aspergillosis, a fungal infection. Findings have been published in a leading journal on mycology.

The University and National Library of UD will host the international conference Open Access Infrastructure Research in Europe (OpenAIRE) between 15–17 January, which will be attended by nearly 100 professionals from 34 countries.

The 2nd Élvonal Conference, entitled "New directions in the research of the evolution of sexual roles", started on Friday. Scientists from all over the world participate at the event that is connected to an international research programme focusing on the social behaviour of shore birds.

A discovery made by researchers of UD may be an important step forward in fighting against bacteria. The researchers have created compounds that may prevent infections caused by pathogens. The findings have been published in "Chemistry – A European Journal".

Among other issues, vice rector László Csernoch discussed details regarding cooperation in the education of automotive engineers with the representative of the University of Hamburg (HAW) at the meeting of the international consortium CARPE in Brussels last week.
