- The three pieces of equipment are of exceptional performance and sensitivity even by international standards, whose acquisiton has led to the establishment of a structural testing and analyitical instrument centre at the Department of Chemistry of the Faculty of Scince and Technology, University of Debrecen, said Sándor Kéki, at the press conference organised on Wednesday, 19 July, in connection with the instrument development project.
The vice dean for academic affairs for the Faculty of Science and Technology, University of Debrecen stressed in his speech that the installation of the 700 MHz NMR spectrometer, the CE-MS mass spectrometer and the XRD X-ray diffraction spectrometer is the most important instrument development of the past 20-15 years, which has been realised using European Union funding, at the Institute of Chemistry of the Faculty of Science and Technology.
Katalin Kövér, a professor at the Institute of Chemistry explained that the great permeabilty, integrated instrument structural testing centre enables performance of multidisciplinary research in natural science and life science in the fields of structural chemistry, structural biology, pharmaceutical, food and environmental sciences.
The professional manager of the project added that the unique complexicity of the instrument centre greatly enhances research potential, enabling studies that were previously not possible to do and it will also facilitate keeping ouitstanding students and young scholars within the institute as well as securing labour supply for Hungarian natural science.
Instrument supervisor Attila Gáspár said that, since the launching of the project in September 2016, 42 Hungarian and international publications have appeared in various journals of inorganic and analyitical chemistry starting from Analytical Chemistry to Analytica Chimica Acta to Scientific Reports of Nature. In addition to the academic publications, 13 theses, university degrees, and Ph D theses have been written due to research conducted using these instruments.
Instrument supervisor Attila Bényei said in his briefing that the development greatly contributes to enhancing the Institute’s international scientific potential since, through the equipment regarded as high-performance even by international standards, which has enabled the examination of small volume, low-concentration, typically biological molecules, the institute can join cooperation and research it previously could not.
The instrument development was realised within the framework of the project GINOP-2.3.2-15-2016-00004, „Integrált nagyműszeres infrastruktúra molekulatudományi és molekuláris gyógyászati kutatásokhoz (I2M2)” to the amount of 807,76 million Hungarian forints.
