Like last year, this year, the most recent list of ShanghaiRanking Consultancy has ranked the University of Debrecen in the category 901-1000 again. Unlike other lists, the ranking list compares the performance of universities based on research results and dissemination of scientific results.
The list ranks universities in four categories, based on six indicators. The universities are assigned points based on the total number of former students and teachers who have won a Nobel prize and Fields Medal, frequently cited researchers, total number of papers published in Nature and Science as well as the total number of publications indexed by Science Citation Index-expanded and Social Science Citation Index. The University of Debrecen achieved the best results in the indicator of the total number of publications.
- This result underlines the importance of internationally present academic activity. The fact that the University’s teachers and professionals publish their papers in the most prestigious journals is of utmost importance not only from the aspect of the researchers but the university, too, Ákos Pintér, vice rector for general affairs told hirek.unideb.hu on the occasion of the publication of the ranking.
The ranking list is headed by two universities form the USA: Harvard University and Stanford University, followed by the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom. In addition to the University of Debrecen, among the Hungarian universities, Lóránd Eötvös University, the University of Szeged, Budapest University of Technology and Economics and Semmelweis University, Budapest, have also been ranked among the top one thousand universities.
To compile the ranking list, experts examine more than 1800 institutions of higher education, ranking the top 1000.
