The renowned American, Japanese, South African and European mathematicians will deal with number theory questions investigated by mathematicians Kálmán Győry, János Pintz and András Sárközy in the main building of the Life Sciences Center of the University of Debrecen.
Lajos Hajdu, professor at the Institute of Mathematics, Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Debrecen, executive chairman of the English-language mathematics conference, told hirek.unideb.hu: Kálmán Győry, professor emeritus of the University of Debrecen, previously held the office of rector of the university, and is currently a member of the board of trustees of the foundation that maintains the institution. Kálmán Győry's main research field is the theory of Diophantine equations. He is credited with founding the number theory school in Debrecen. He has been a corresponding member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences since 1993, and a full member since 1998. He has received the Academic Award, the Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary, the Széchenyi Award and the Medal of the University of Debrecen among other things. The local government of Debrecen has honored him with the Havana award. He has been an invited speaker and visiting professor at several leading research centers around the world, including Paris, Leiden, Budapest, Tokyo and California. During his career, he has solved old mathematical problems, including a 100-year-old open question, and proved several conjectures. He has authored more than 140 academic papers, and 4 books.
Of the other two celebrated mathematicians, Janos Pints, a colleague of the Alfred Reni Mathematical Research Institute, is an internationally recognized leading figure in multiplicative number theory, including prime number theory. Andres, Sarcoxie, professor emeritus of ELTE, deals with additive number theory issues and the theory of pseudo-random sequences.
- The event is of great importance because the participants carry with them the reputation of the University of Debrecen to the rest of the world. We prove once again that number theory has great prestige in Hungary and at our university as well - said Professor Lajos Hajdu.
At the conference 81 presentations will be given in 15 plenary sessions, where the latest research results will be presented. The three celebrated professional careers were praised by the participants on Thursday.
