Among the Best Again!

The latest edition of QS World University Ranking was published, and the University of Debrecen is ranked as the first among the Hungarian universities in terms of the number of international students.

A new feature of the list is that six Hungarian universities are now among the best in the world instead of last year’s four. The University of Szeged is in the 501-550, Eötvös Loránd University in the 601-650, while the University of Debrecen is in the 651-700 group. Corvinus University of Budapest, as well as the two “rookies,” the Budapest University of Technology and Economics and the University of Pécs were both ranked in the 701+ group.

The experts of Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), based in London, have produced university rankings since 2004. In the preparation of their list, they take six performance indicators into consideration: student-to-faculty ratio (20%), employer reputation (10%), citations per faculty (20%), academic reputation (40%), as well as international faculty and international student ratios (5% each).

According to the last of these, the University of Debrecen achieved the highest ranking (number 266), which shows that the university has had a strong international presence for years. In the period examined, 4,028 international students from 101 countries studied at the University of Debrecen. All 14 faculties of the university are popular, but in terms of headcounts, the Faculty of General Medicine (1,880), the Faculty of Dentistry (389) and the Faculty of Science and Technology (299) stand out.

Once again, in the 2016/17 academic year now commencing, more than a thousand first-year students from abroad will start their studies at the University of Debrecen.
