The experts of the London-based Quacquarelli Symonds have been compiling rankings of higher education institutions worldwide since 2004. This year’s regional ranking, which evaluated 354 Emerging European and Central Asian universities, has been made using 10 indicators.
The overall score is calculated by adding up the following indicators: academic reputation 30%; employer reputation 20%; faculty-student ratio, international research network and the ratio of papers per faculty count for 10% each; the ratio of faculty staff with PhD, citations per paper, and web impact count for 5% each, while the ratio of international faculty and international students count for 2.5% each.
Once again the University of Debrecen reached its highest ranking – the 18th place – in the ratio of international students, and has improved its previous ranking in the category of web impact, coming up to the 35th place this year.
“Quacquarelli Symonds rankings are among the most definitive higher education rankings, and, as such, they provide important feedback to institutions about the work they have been doing. The fact that the University of Debrecen is listed among the best 50 Emerging European and Central Asian universities definitely proves that we are on the right track” – commented Ákos Pintér, general vice rector.
This year’s ranking is led by Lomonosov Moscow State University, Saint Petersburg State University and Novosibirsk State University. Last year’s ranking included 14 Hungarian universities, while this year 17 Hungarian institutions of higher education managed to make the top 50 list, which includes, besides the University of Debrecen, Eötvös Lorand University, the University of Szeged, the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, and Corvinus University of Budapest.
