The Rouzbeh Scientific Institute has been in partnership with the University of Debrecen for over thirty-five years. A significant number of Iranian students have come to Debrecen through that agency.
“The future is beautiful because we are building it together,” said Zoltán Szilvássy at the partnership meeting. The rector emphasized that the university welcomes young people from the Middle Eastern country not only in medical, pharmaceutical and dental programs, but also in non-healthcare fields, in natural sciences, among others.
Among the international partners of the University of Debrecen, the Rouzbeh Scientific Institute plays a prominent role, having been a reliable and committed partner of the institution for thirty-five years.
“In recent years, more than 1,200 Iranian students have begun their studies at our university thanks to the work of the Rouzbeh Scientific Institute, the late Abbas Rouzbahani, and his wife, Afsaheh Rouzbahani. From the very beginning, their activity has gone beyond recruiting students. Through their dedicated and committed work, the students receive not only professional but also personal support,” said Attila Jenei, Director of the Coordinating Center for International Education.
“The University of Debrecen and Hungary are practically my second home; my children also study here. Through our thirty-five-year professional relationship, I can say that this institution plays a decisive role in our lives. It was important for my late husband to express his dedication to the university with a small souvenir, a Persian gift, as a farewell gesture for the institution,” said Afsaheh Rouzbahani.
The head of the agency presented a handmade silk carpet depicting the University of Debrecen to Rector Zoltán Szilvássy and indicated that the Middle Eastern organization would like to continue supporting and assisting the international relations of the University of Debrecen.
János Szöllősi, professor emeritus of the Institute of Biophysics and Cell Biology, who actively worked with the foreign student community in the early period of the partnership, recalled the first years of student recruitment and highlighted that the activities of the Rouzbeh Scientific Institute and its founders, Abbas Rouzbahani and Afsaheh Rouzbahani, have greatly contributed to the birth of the international student group of the University of Debrecen that today numbers more than 7,600 people.
“For students coming from Iran, Afsaheh Rouzbahani is not just a contact person; our Iranian students can turn to her with confidence with any questions. Since 1990, Afsaheh Rouzbahani has personally accompanied newly admitted students to Hungary, facilitating their integration process and providing assistance with administrative and everyday matters,” János Szőllősi added.
Currently, there are 317 Iranian students at the University of Debrecen. A large portion of them came with the involvement of the Rouzbeh Scientific Institute.
