International research opportunities for UD professionals

The University of Debrecen and the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research have signed a cooperation agreement. The multidisciplinary international centre for basic research in nuclear physics and related science and technology invites researchers from Debrecen to participate in projects in its seven laboratories.

Sergey Nedelko, Secretary General of the International Intergovernmental Research Organisation, founded in 1956 with the participation of 16 Member States, including Hungary, and Sergey Kulikov, Deputy Director of Research at the Neutron Physics Laboratory, visited the University of Debrecen on Monday to present in detail the activities of the world-renowned centre in Dubna, which has three pillars: science, education and innovation.

- The Joint Institute for Nuclear Research is a unique example of integrating fundamental theoretical and experimental research with the development and application of state-of-the-art technology and university education. Our main areas of research are particle physics, nuclear physics and condensed matter physics," said Sergey Nedelko, Candidate of Science in Physics and Mathematics.

JINR's seven laboratories employ 5,000 people from more than 30 countries around the world. Its international collaborations cover more than 800 scientific centres and universities in 60 countries, but the centre is constantly seeking to expand its network of partners. Last year, it signed an intergovernmental agreement with Mexico and recently strengthened its cooperation with the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology.

The Dubna-based research centre has already been in contact with the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Debrecen, but they would like to expand the partnership further, said Károly Pető, Vice-Rector General, Okszána Kiszil, Director of Coordination and Strategy, Ferenc Kun, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology, and Géza Lévai, Deputy Director of the Institute of Nuclear Research. The details of the cooperation, including research, mobility and the organisation of courses and conferences, were set out in an agreement between the parties.

The representatives of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research have also reported that the institute offers opportunities for talented young scientists, organising practical courses for students of higher education institutions at its University Centre.
After a meeting in the Main Building, Sergey Nedelko and Sergey Kulikov visited the Faculty of Science and Technology and the Institute for Nuclear Research.
