The UK Ambassador to Hungary visited the University of Debrecen for the first time in 2022, where he met then and this time again with Elek Bartha, Vice-Rector for Education, who presented the achievements of the university in recent years.
- During the meeting, we reviewed the possibilities for further expanding relations in the areas of student and faculty mobility, research, academic activities and economic life, Elek Bartha informed the university news portal.
Paul Fox paid a visit to the Institute of Anglo-American Studies at the Faculty of Arts, where the Ambassador was received by the head of the British Culture Department for an informal discussion. Eszter Ureczky, Departmental Coordinator, presented the main research areas and plans of the Department, as well as their most important publications, including the seven-volume series The History of English Literature edited by Tamás Bényei.
Balázs Venkovits, Director of the English-American Institute of the Faculty of Humanities (BTK), told the hirek.unideb.hu portal that the meeting was a good opportunity to present the research and educational programmes related to British culture, literature and history, which they hope to develop and expand, and to strengthen cooperation with British colleagues and universities, like in previous years.
The university visit concluded with a lecture for the Institute's faculty and students in the Main Building's Sziget event space, where they were given information on the history of the UK-Hungary relationship. During the discussion that followed the presentation, a number of questions were asked, including about the aftermath of Brexit and the Ambassador's experiences of his stay in Hungary.
