The New Israeli Ambassador at the University

Yossi Amrani wishes to contribute to better cooperation between the University of Debrecen and research institutes and higher education institutions in Israel. The ambassador would also like to involve into the joint programmes the Israeli students studying in Debrecen.

The new Israeli ambassador, who arrived in Hungary at the end of November, formulated some specific objectives during his visit to the University of Debrecen on 8 December. In the course of his negotiations with rector Zoltán Szilvássy, he emphasized especially the Israeli research projects related to medical biology, the pharmaceutical industry and agriculture, in which the University of Debrecen could join as an academic partner.

Since Israeli research institutes and higher education institutions work closely with industry partners, the joint research programmes may also result for the University of Debrecen in cooperations with businesses.

“The economy of Israel prefers the tripartite cooperation of city, academy and industry. This is exactly the reason why the ambassador came to Debrecen, as he could not find such cooperation in other Hungarian cities. The five hundred year history of higher education in Debrecen also made a deep impression on him,” Zoltán Szilvássy said after the meeting.

Almost three hundred Israeli students study at the faculties of medicine, dentistry and agriculture of the University of Debrecen, and Yossi Amrani would like to involve them also in the joint research projects. After the talks with the rector, the ambassador also met the Israeli students.
