The Faculty of Science and Technology at the University of Debrecen, which celebrated the 75th anniversary of its foundation recently, has evolved into one of the major centers for research, development and innovation in our region. The high level of international recognition of this faculty is best illustrated by the fact that as many as six of its organizational units hold a Center of Excellence title awarded by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA). In addition, there are several HUN-REN, Lendület [Momentum] and Élvonal [Cutting-Edge] research groups operating at the institution, which recently secured roughly HUF 5 billion funding in the form of grants. All of this information was shared by the dean of the faculty during the course of their graduation ceremony on Wednesday.
- This faculty continues to be busy modernizing its infrastructure and academic program offerings in order to meet the changing market demands. Accordingly, a series of new programs have been launched recently, including a bachelor’s program in biotechnology, a master’s program in geoinformatics, another master’s program in electrical engineering (offered jointly with the Faculty of Engineering) and the most recent bachelor’s program in materials engineering. The state-of-the-art conditions available to our students are also indicated by the fact that the complete overhaul of the central Chemistry Building is to be completed later this year - said Ferenc Kun.
The English-language programs offered by the Faculty of Science and Technology (TTK) at the University of Debrecen are also extremely popular with international students. At present there are almost 800 international students enrolled in these programs from more than 100 different countries, enriching the multicultural community of the faculty.
The dean also expressed his gratitude to the graduates for their trust. Addressing the undergraduate grads, he voiced his optimism and hope concerning that many of them would decide to continue pursuing their studies in the master's programs offered by the faculty, while he welcomed the holders of master's degrees as his colleagues, several of whom will be continuing their research careers at the university as doctoral students.
As tradition dictates, the students received their diplomas after taking their solemn oath at the ceremonies. At the two events, a total of 382 graduates obtained their qualifications..
The faculty bade farewell to 163 undergraduate students, 171 master's students, 43 undivided majors, and to 5 recent graduates in specialized continuing education.
In the name of the graduating Hungarian students, it was biology major Kata Zsófia Szilágyi who said goodbye to the institution, while biology major Arjan Janarbyek did the same on behalf of the international students. Both events concluded with the presentation of honors, awards and recognitions established by the faculty and the Student Self-Government.
