Effective July 1, Professor Norbert Németh will serve as dean of the Faculty of General Medicine at the University of Debrecen, supported by a renewed dean’s office. Professor László Nagy, for example, will assist the faculty’s international initiatives and collaborations in his role as an advisor to the dean.
- I considered it important to establish an advisory role that would allow us to draw on an even broader range of experience and professional connections in the fields of academic and international relations, particularly with regard to North American ties. In Professor László Nagy, I have invited an expert who, through his domestic and international experience and extensive network of contacts, can credibly and effectively support the faculty’s efforts in this area. I am confident that our regular professional consultations will contribute to the establishment of new collaborations and the strengthening of existing partnerships, as well as to a better understanding of the international expectations, approaches, evaluation systems, and best practices that can help the faculty make progress in the areas of international grants, research collaborations, and partnerships- emphasized Professor Norbert Németh, dean of the faculty.
László Nagy is a professor at the Institute of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the Faculty of General Medicine, University of Debrecen, and at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, as well as co-director and group leader at the Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital Institute for Fundamental Biomedical Research on the university’s Florida campus. The professor said that he had maintained a good relationship with the previous dean’s office and had the opportunity to share his professional opinions and experience; however, he now believes that, as an appointed advisor, he can support the faculty’s international collaborations much more effectively.
- My very appointment also demonstrates that in the future the new university and faculty leadership intends to place greater emphasis on the internationally oriented development and renewal of medical education, particularly on adopting experience, models, and best practices from Western Europe and North America. I warmly welcome this initiative and would like to support it with my own professional experience. As part of this, I consider it important to expand international partnerships with partner institutions, as well as to integrate study abroad programs more broadly and thoughtfully into medical and residency training, as well as into MD/PhD, PhD, and postdoctoral programs- emphasized Professor László Nagy.
The advisor to the dean of the Faculty of Medicine’s also noted that he considers his primary task to be supporting the dean’s leadership objectives, while also hoping to contribute through his own initiatives to expanding study abroad opportunities, developing talent management—particularly by strengthening clinically oriented PhD programs—and modernizing research infrastructure, the evaluation of scientific performance, and research funding.
