Israeli Delegation Visits UD

During their four-day stay in Hungary, a delegation from Rishon LeZion, the Israeli sister-city of Debrecen, also paid a visit to the University of Debrecen.

The delegates, led by Mayor Dov Zur, were officially welcomed in the Rector’s Office of the Main Building by Elek Bartha, Vice-Rector for Education, on September 14th.

The visitors were primarily interested in the educational programs offered by the university, which is quite understandable, as there are as many as 279 international students from Israel currently at UD, which figure has been continuously increasing in recent years. Most of them study general medicine or dentistry.

In his presentation about the university, Vice-Rector Bartha emphasized that our institution today offers the broadest spectrum of programs available in Hungary and that the more than four thousand international students here, comprising at least 15% of the overall student body, represent one of the highest figures enrolled at the best Hungarian universities.

Israeli relations by the University of Debrecen have been actively cultivated for some time and, as a result of a successful joint application for funding submitted lately together with Ben Gurion University of the Negev, we have gained access to resources to support eight faculty and staff mobilities.

There is also a non-profit private institution of higher education located in our twin city, Rishon LeZion, called College of Management-Academic Studies, which offers programs of national excellence in the fields of finance and management. Its faculties include Business, Law, Media Studies, Economics, Information Technology, Behavioral Sciences, and Interior Design.

The members of the delegation were especially interested in the cultural and social features of Debrecen (such as cultural programs, hotels and accommodation facilities, and the local airport), which facilitate a further expansion in sister-city relations by way of promoting the opportunity of studying at the University of Debrecen among even more potential students from Israel.
