The goal of the competition is to identify and support the most promising AI ideas, projects, and development teams. A total of 43 entries were submitted to the idea competition, including 33 individual entries and 10 team entries. In addition to students from the Faculty of Informatics, university students studying engineering, health sciences, humanities, natural sciences, and medicine also participated. In their submissions, they were required to present AI-based concepts that offer innovative solutions to real-world problems in specific fields or across multiple disciplines.
Based on the preliminary evaluation, twenty proposals advanced to the finals, where the students had the opportunity to present their ideas in person. The finalists presented the essence, purpose, and expected practical applicability of their ideas to the jury in a three-minute pitch.
- One of the initiative’s most important goals is to provide as many students as possible at the University of Debrecen with the opportunity to present their ideas related to artificial intelligence. AI is no longer limited to the field of computer science: it creates new opportunities for research, development, and innovation in nearly every academic discipline. We want to provide a forum where these ideas can be showcased, receive professional support, and where students from different academic disciplines can connect with one another- said András Hajdu, dean of the Faculty of Informatics.
The faculty dean emphasized that another important goal is to ensure that promising initiatives do not end with the competition, but rather serve as a starting point for further development, research collaborations, participation in international competitions, or even future startups.The faculty also linked a matchmaking initiative to the competition, allowing idea generators who were looking for an IT developer to bring their concepts to life to present their ideas to students. A total of ten took advantage of this opportunity, and nearly sixty students from the Faculty of Informatics expressed interest in serving as developers in response to the call. In addition to supporting specific projects, this initiative could also represent an important step toward strengthening multidisciplinary student collaboration within the university.
The top three winners of the idea competition were Verified Clinical Reasoning, We.Save.It.AI, and GreenMind AI. However, the competition does not end with the evaluation of ideas: the next phase of the DEIK.AI Challenge is the AI Demo Competition, for which submissions of AI solutions—whether fully functional or in an advanced stage of development—are accepted until September 25. Enhanced versions of projects presented in the idea competition are also eligible for submission.
The top-performing projects from the demo competition will be invited to the AI Sprint scheduled for October 9–10, where they can continue working in an intensive development environment.
