This conference is routinely organized by the European Educational Research Association (EERA). Since 1992, it has been held annually in a different country, under the coordination of a local member organization. Hungary is represented in the association, which comprises 43 member organizations across 41 countries, by the organization Hungarian Educational Research Association (HERA), which currently boasts almost 700 members.
At the concluding event of the conference in Finland, it was Erika Juhász, President of the Hungarian Educational Research Association and Head of the Department of Cultural Studies at the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Debrecen, who invited all the participants to the 2027 gathering.
The University of Debrecen is to host the 2027 conference made up of two parts: the Emerging Researchers’ Conference program on August 30 and 31, followed by the European Conference on Educational Research from August 31 to September 3, with a slight overlap in order to facilitate networking.
As its title also suggests, the conference is going to be centered on the theme of community learning: “Learning Communities and Shared Futures in Education.”
Due to the high number of participants expected, the event will be hosted in several buildings on the University Square campus, including the Main Building, the Life Sciences Center, the Lifelong Learning Center, the Chemistry Building and the Faculty of Music building. Simultaneously, the accompanying programs will take place on the university campus, the Big Forest (Nagyerdő), and at a variety of locations across the city of Debrecen itself.
The tentative conference program is already available at https://eera-ecer.de/conferences/ecer-2027-debrecen, where abstracts can be submitted between December 1, 2026, and January 31, 2027.
On behalf of the Hungarian Educational Research Association and the University of Debrecen, the organizers invite all Hungarian educational researchers and professionals to showcase the achievements of education in Hungary in substantial numbers, represent Hungarian educational research and forge as many new international collaborations as possible across various fields of education in 2027.
