The academic Scopus indexed periodical Hungarian Journal of English and American Studies of the Institute of English and American Studies of the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Debrecen is to introduce a new Open-Access book series. The first piece in the series, which is called HJEAS Books, has been published jointly by the editors of HJEAS and Debrecen University Press, to be followed in the future by two more publications each year.
At the book launch held in Sziget [Island], the function room of the University and National Library of UD, the attendees could learn about Donald E. Morse’s It’s Time: What Living in Time Is Like either in person or through virtual presence, thanks to the online coverage of the event.
“This book explores the relationship between humans and time from the perspectives of natural sciences, philosophy and the art of narration through examples culled from the literatures of the English-speaking world. These are represented by texts created by authors such as William Shakespeare, Emily Dickinson, James Joyce, H.G. Wells, Ray Bradbury and Kurt Vonnegut,” said Assistant Professor of the North-American Department (IEAS, FoH, UD) Imola Bülgözdi to hirek.unideb.hu.
A welcoming address and the launch opening was delivered by host Dr. István Rácz, a professor of the Department of British Studies, while another address on behalf of DEENK was given by main librarian and deputy director general Erzsébet Enikő Pergéné Szabó.
The appropriate mood and atmosphere for the book launch was created by two pieces of music played by the band First Step.
This was followed by the book launch proper delivered by Dr. Christopher Murray, an Emeritus Professor at University College Dublin.
The volumes published in the series HJEAS Books, the publication of which has been made possible by financial support from the Dean of Humanities Dr. Róbert Keményfi, will be available in the bookstore of Debrecen University Press and shall also be made accessible online in Open Access form at the website of DUPress.
The members of the editorial board of HJEAS plan to publish two more books soon as parts of the series: “A wretchedness to defend”: Reading Beckett’s Letters by Erika Mihálycsa (Babes-Bolyai University, Cluj, Romania) is scheduled to come out in November 2022, to be followed in April 2023 by a collection of studies, Negotiating Age: Aging and Ageism in Contemporary Literature and Theatre, edited by Mária Kurdi (Pécsi Tudományegyetem [University of Pécs]).
