The international competition was announced by the Consortium on Applied Research and Professional Education (CARPE). In addition to the University of Debrecen, the universities of Hamburg, Utrecht, Turku and Valencia are also members of the Consortium. The next conference of CARPE will be held in the Spanish town of Valencia between Oct 23 and 25. At the discussion university students will have a special forum, where they can disclose what they think about some current issue and what ideas they have to solve it.
- The Carpe Challenge competition was announced at the University of Debrecen this spring. The students’ teams could apply with project ideas linked to the topic of liveable cities. Then, after the preliminary round of judging, three teams were invited to the University’s final round, László Csernoch, vice rector for academic affairs said.
At the September 4 event the students presented their project idea in a short video and a presentation in English. The Faculty of Engineering was represented by two teams: one’s project topic was the urban use of rainfall water and the other explored the topic of the urban use of renewable energy sources. The third team, the students of the Faculty of Economics (GTK) presented their idea of transport development.
According to the jury’s deliberation it was the team of the Faculty of Economics (GTK): Marianna Vágner and Edina Várnagy (prepared by their teacher István Kovács) that won the universities’ round and can thus travel to Valencia in October. The students will represent the University of Debrecen with their project "The Cycling City: Using Smart Solutions in Debrecen" and compete against the teams of the other four universities at CARPE Conference.
