The International Review of Applied Sciences and Engineering (IRASE) advanced to a Q1 ranking in the architecture category, a Q2 ranking in the engineering category, and a Q3 ranking in the management science and operational research category in the Scimago Journal and Country Rank.
Géza Husi, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Debrecen (DE), said: This accreditation is particularly significant in that the journal holds at least a Q3 ranking in virtually every relevant subject area, indicating a stable and well-balanced international standing.
- The results achieved clearly validate the deliberate scientific and quality improvement strategy that the faculty has pursued in recent years. The strengthening of the IRASE ranking aligns closely with the faculty’s strategic objectives, particularly increasing international scientific visibility, consistently raising the quality of publications, and presenting the applied engineering and architectural sciences in an integrated manner. The current rankings also confirm the strategic decision made three or four years ago, which was specifically aimed at improving international standing- said Dean Géza Husi.
The faculty dean emphasized that the IRASE results do not represent an isolated success, but rather serve as indicators of a broader, qualitative shift in the institution’s academic performance. The shift in perspective observed in recent years—which is also interpretable by international standards and prioritizes high-value-added scientific results—is also evident in a tangible form in this journal ranking.
According to Géza Husi, IRASE’s current ranking permanently strengthens the position of the Faculty of Engineering and the university in the field of engineering in terms of the quality and attractiveness of doctoral education, research and development and grant-seeking activities, as well as international scientific collaborations.
Ákos Lakatos, editor-in-chief of the International Review of Applied Sciences and Engineering and head of the Department of Building Services and Facilities Engineering at the University of Debrecen, added: the Scimago ranking also means that, among journals associated with other Hungarian universities that also focus on technical fields, IRASE has taken a leading position in this ranking.
The journal was founded by the faculty administration in 2010; Ferenc Kalmár served as editor-in-chief until 2020, when he was succeeded by Ákos Lakatos.
- Since its inception, the journal has undergone continuous development; it was included in Scopus in 2017 and has been ranked by Scimago since 2018. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the publication, it competes in multiple fields, and thanks to the dedicated work of past and current editors, it consistently produces improving metrics- emphasized Editor-in-Chief Ákos Lakatos.
Ádám Szabó, a staff member of the Research Support Department at the DE University and National Library (DEENK), said that the university currently subscribes to more than 50 journals. Of these, 38 are hosted on the Dejournals platform, i.e., the university’s OJS platform. IRASE is published by Akadémia Kiadó.
Dejournals is an open-access platform—known as a Diamond Open Access platform—which the university has undertaken to operate. Through this platform, DEENK aims to provide journals with technical support and professional assistance to enhance their visibility, among other things.
- In recent years, these publications have undergone significant professional development; their international visibility has strengthened, their pool of authors has expanded, and they increasingly meet international indexing and quality requirements. This trajectory clearly demonstrates that professional journals are dynamically adapting to the changing expectations of scientific communication- explained Ádám Szabó.
