Lean Lab Inaugurated at the Faculty of Engineering

From now on, the students of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Debrecen can learn about Lean production, logistics and supply chains in a special laboratory. This new unit has been designed in cooperation with Kaizen Institute Hungary Kft. and Tech-Con Hungária Kft.

The Department of Engineering Management and Enterprise at the Faculty of Engineering of UD has been the first to establish and launch a Lean postgraduate program in Hungary.

“It is important for us to focus on corporate demands and provide the most recent state-of-the-art methods that have been tried and tested to our future engineers and to do all that in a practice-oriented form. The establishment of our Lean Lab is supposed to assist us in working towards that objective, and our students will be able to acquire the necessary skills and knowledge for that at both BA and MA levels,” said Edit Szűcs, former Dean of the Faculty of Engineering to the portal hirek.unideb.hu.

Those who graduate from the Industrial Process Management specialization can now learn about the system of conditions for closed system industrial processes as well as the basic technical processes. In the specialization on Material Handling and Logistics, they can study the operation of material handling equipment and systems as well as the methodology of supply management, whereas the Construction Industry specialization will provide them with the necessary knowledge regarding the implementation and organization of construction technologies.

The international Kaizen Institute was founded in 1985 by Masaaki Imai in order to make it possible for people all over the world to find out about the philosophy, system and methods of continuous development.

“The experienced consulting and instructing team of Kaizen Institute Hungary Kft. offers a possibility for Hungarian and international students as well as corporate parties to sign up for modules of practical training courses in order to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills related to the application of Lean methods,” said Norbert Mátrai, a founding member of the Hungarian representative body for Kaizen Institute, who is also an Honorary Associate Professor of the University of Debrecen.

The interior design and furniture has been supplied by Tech-Con Hungária Kft., using ITEM pieces that constitute the patented systems of Lean, Kaizen and Karakuri principles, comprising aluminum profiles. This company is a member of the international Tech-Con group, and since its foundation in 1992, it has concentrated on providing full-scale high-tech automation services and solutions to a variety of customers, including major industrial end-users and enterprises specializing in engineering.
