The Faculty of Arts at the University of Debrecen has achieved a significant success, as experts ranked it among the world’s top 550 institutions in the Arts and Humanities category of the latest Quacquarelli Symonds 2026 subject rankings.
- This is an important recognition for the faculty, as inclusion in one of the most influential subject-specific rankings demonstrates that humanities education in Debrecen is visible and recognized globally. Being included among the elite is also a confirmation of educational quality and international recognition. The Faculty of Humanities’ success aligns with the university’s improving performance in international rankings,” Róbert Keményfi, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities- told hirek.unideb.hu.
The QS 2026 subject rankings evaluated 21,000 programs at more than 6,200 universities across 166 countries. Of these, 1,908 institutions ultimately made the list. Among the five major subject areas examined, UD ranks 501–550 in the humanities, with the University of Oxford, Harvard University, and Cambridge University leading the list.
During the evaluation, QS experts used a complex set of criteria, including academic reputation, employer feedback, research citations, and active participation in international research networks.
The University of Debrecen also holds a prominent position in the overall QS World University Rankings: with its 563rd-place ranking, it consistently ranks among the top higher education institutions in Hungary, demonstrating its competitiveness in the international education market across multiple disciplines.
