Two experts from the Faculty of Child and Special Education Needs at the University of Debrecen, Associate Professor Anikó Vargáné Nagy and College Professor Sándor Pálfi, completed their international professional tour with a tight schedule but all the more successful results. During this series of visits, they represented our institution at educational institutions and community centers in Singapore and Australia.
First, they attended the conference “Language of Generations” held in Perth, Australia, upon the invitation of the Hungarian Teachers Association of Australia. This professional symposium focused on the teaching of the Hungarian language from early childhood through adulthood.
In Perth, Anikó Vargáné Nagy gave an inspiring talk on generational language patterns and the language development of children whose progress is different from the average. As for Sándor Pálfi, he discussed the impact of play on personality development as well as the positive effects of project-based pedagogical development on native language acquisition, with a special eye on diaspora communities.
The conference program comprised not only theoretical presentations but also a series of practical demonstrations, where participants had the opportunity to get familiar with innovative tools such as game-based learning and the application of artificial intelligence in designing the curriculum.
As part of the Pannónia Scholarship Program, the Hungarian specialists also visited Singapore, where they took part in a professional dialogue within a university setting. The objective of their mobility program was to facilitate the exchange of experience across cultures in the field of early childhood education. Sándor Pálfi conducted a seminar for local educators on “The Importance of Play and Play-Based Education in Early Childhood,” while Anikó Vargáné Nagy outlined the potential application possibilities of artificial intelligence in early childhood education to undergraduate and graduate students.
During the course of their trip to Singapore, the representatives of the University of Debrecen also consulted with the local Hungarian Ambassador. As a result of their discussions, a long-term collaboration is taking shape, covering joint efforts in the field of higher education that will continue in the future through online webinars, joint conferences and research consultations.
The visits shed light on the fact that the pedagogical knowledge base accumulated at the University of Debrecen is globally competitive and in high demand, be it about supporting the communities of the Hungarian diaspora or engaging in a dialogue with educational models in the Far East.
