Budapest-based Rosatom Central Europe Regional Office has issued a call for participation by students of Hungarian faculties of engineering in a hackathon competition for developing an idea on a topic related to nuclear energy. For participating in the two-day (April 29 and 30) English-language Hackatom Hungary, a total number of 24 entries altogether has been received from the University of Debrecen, the University of Dunaújváros and from the University of Pécs.
On the first day of the contest, there will be lectures and presentations delivered online at the event by professors from the top five Russian technical universities, including MEPhI (Moscow), MPEI (Moscow), Peter the Great Saint-Petersburg Polytechnic University (St. Petersburg), Tomsk Polytechnical University (Tomsk) and Ural Federal University (Ekaterinburg), in which they will outline the subject matters of the competition tasks and challenges, which cover material-quality control measurement data analysis in addition to modeling forecasts of electric-power energy consumption in nuclear power plants. The two technical tasks to be solved will be set and announced following the lectures. Participating teams will then have 24 hours to work on and to complete the relevant projects, the results of which efforts they will have a chance to introduce and outline on the following day in 5-minute presentations.
The members of the international jury will adjudicate not only the level of acceptability of the solutions of the tasks but will also consider the compactness and creativity of the project presentations, on the basis of which they will determine their final ranking of the teams. The members of the first three teams will receive valuable prizes, while all the participants will get a chance to take a tour of Paksi Atomerőmű [Nuclear Power Plant at Paks] after the easing of the current pandemic-related restrictions.

22 teams from UD’s Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Science and Technology are going to participate in the online competition announced by the global atomic energy corporation Rosatom. Representatives of the most prestigious Russian technical universities will also contribute to the event.
