UD Athlete Wins Silver Medal at the European Championship

Luca Kozák, student of finance and accounting at UD came in second in the 100 m hurdles at the European Athletic Championship, which was organised in the framework of the multisport EC. She is the first Hungarian athlete to make it to the final in this event.

Owing to her excellent shape, Luca Kozák has shown a performance that stands out in the history of sport: Luca, who studies finance and accounting at the Faculty of Economics and Business of UD, has won silver medal at the EC with a national record of 12.69 seconds.
The athlete told hirek.unideb.hu that she had been highly motivated and had felt that she might perform great.

- I was confident, because I ran 12.70 before the EC, and I was fourth in the world ranking with two other athletes. I hoped that I would be able to achieve an even better result. I performed well in the qualification with ease. I wanted to run a really good time in the final. I was focused, and I enjoyed running in the final. When I run, I do not think. It would distract me. So I just ran. It was my most enjoyable race this year – said Luca Kozák.

She came in second with 12.69 in the semi-final. She easily found her rhythm in the final, and just like in the semi-final, only Pia Skrzysowska from Poland could beat her. The Hungarian athlete ran 12.69 again, and finished the competition with a silver medal.

The EC silver medal is the biggest success of her career so far. It was the first time that she  had had a chance to compete in a 100 m hurdles final at an international championship.

Results:

Women 100 m hurdles:

Pia Skrzysowska (Poland) 12.53 seconds
