The delegation was officially welcomed and received by Ákos Pintér, the Vice Rector for General Affairs of our institution. At present, there are 24 South African students enrolled at the various faculties of our university, including the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Dentistry, the Faculty of Informatics, the Faculty of Public Health, the Faculty of Engineering, and the Faculty of Science and Technology. 11 of these students are recipients of a grant provided by the Hungarian government through its scholarship program called Stipendium Hungaricum.
“For us, establishing and strengthening international relations is of extraordinary importance, even with such distant locations as the Republic of South Africa. The reason for this is that these efforts indeed enhance the good reputation of the University of Debrecen all over the world, thus boosting the interest of foreign students in the English-language programs we offer here,” said Ákos Pintér after the meeting to the portal unideb.hu..
The next point on the agenda of the delegation was a visit to our Nemzetközi Oktatást Koordináló Központ [Coordinating Center for International Education], where they discussed the opportunities available for students in the Stipendium Hungaricum program, after which they met the South African students currently enrolled at the University of Debrecen.
In fact, for Ms. Pumla Nene, this was not her first visit to our university, as she had already met Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Elek Bartha last year.
At the University of Debrecen, there are more than five thousand international students registered from as many as 109 different countries in the academic year 2017/18.
