Industrial Solutions of the Future at the Innovation Summit

The Faculty of Engineering of the University of Debrecen hosted an innovation forum dedicated to recent solutions in digital design and manufacturing. The English-language program was attended by representatives of software user and developer companies that operate in Debrecen and are affiliated with the university.

The most important aim of the event, jointly organized by the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Debrecen (UDFE) and Shanghai DianJi University, within the framework of the One Belt, One Road Initiative, was to promote industrial transformation driven by computer-aided design and manufacturing, and to bring together stakeholders, engineers, researchers, and decision-makers. The meeting also offered an opportunity for professional dialogue, networking, and for participants to formulate recommendations for future technological developments and manufacturing solutions.

Géza Husi, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, said that 25-30 technical ideas surfaced at the forum that could be used to collaborate with Shanghai DianJi University.

“We would like to find universities in the world, both in the East and the West, with whom we could work together in the future, given that the University of Debrecen offers a complete technical education. In addition to bachelor’s and master’s degree programs, we now also offer PhD programs. Shanghai DianJi University could be a partner in this,” said Géza Husi.

The head of the faculty added “the goal is to offer the staff and capacity of the Faculty of Engineering to companies to develop innovations, so the agreements reached in this way could lead to an increasing number of master’s and PhD students.”

As part of the event, the companies that attended the forum, the Chinese businesses operating in Debrecen, the representatives of UDFE, and Lajos Barcsa, Deputy Mayor of Debrecen responsible for economic affairs, held a roundtable discussion, where new innovations were also presented.

“One of our most important goals is that young people studying in Debrecen, including at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Debrecen, find jobs locally after graduation. To this end, it is very important that the training institutions, the university, and the business companies maintain a continuous dialogue. The University of Debrecen should provide training that meets the ideas of the companies,” said Lajos Barcsa.

István Kovács, the financial manager of UD Catapult Nonprofit Kft., said that the company established by the university last year contributed to technological knowledge transfer as part of the innovation ecosystem. At the innovation forum, he showed how a relationship between the university and a company can be established.

“Fortunately, not only the university is opening up to the market, but market players are also looking for contact with us. The model of the University of Debrecen is very successful; the first results are already visible,” said István Kovács. At the Innovation Forum on Digital Design and Manufacturing Exhibition and Innovation Summit, the companies also presented themselves with a poster exhibition.
