Expanding Relations with China

Universities in China, whose representatives paid an official visit to our institution, would be keen to figure out details concerning the English-language programs offered at the University of Debrecen in the fields of science and technology, information science, agriculture, economy, and music.

A joint delegation from Yantai University (Yantai), Ningbo University (Ningbo, Zheijang) and China West Normal University (Nanchong, Sichuan) came to visit the University of Debrecen on April 24. As each one of these institutions would be very similar to the University of Debrecen with regard to their programs, structure, and student/staff number, the members of the Chinese delegation were primarily interested in the master’s degree programs and courses available in English in the disciplines of science and technology, information science, agriculture, economy, and music.

“As it turned out during the course of the discussions, it is by no means surprising that the English-language programs were in the focus of their attention, since there are not too many chances for taking similar courses in China. International students would choose their country mainly because of the Chinese language, but Chinese students have a much better chance of finding a job anywhere in the world if they know the local vernacular and have substantial practice in their professional field. All this seems to be easily attainable at the University of Debrecen,” said László Csernoch to the portal unideb.hu after the meeting.

The Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs emphasized that the connection could even be bilateral, creating a possibility for the students of the University of Debrecen to do their work experience related practice or internship at companies with a Chinese background in the spirit of market-oriented training.

The Chinese visitors attended a presentation on the variety of courses offered at the University of Debrecen, following which they had meetings with the heads of the Faculty of Economics, the Faculty of Informatics, the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences and Environmental Management, the Faculty of Science and Technology, and the Faculty of Music.

In addition, they also paid visits to Bethlen Gábor Közgazdasági Szakgimnázium [Gábor Bethlen High School of Economics] and Debreceni Egyetem Kossuth Lajos Gyakorló Gimnáziuma [Lajos Kossuth High School Affiliated with the University of Debrecen] too.
