The managements of the University of Debrecen and Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (NUAA), one of the top 100 universities in China, signed a cooperation agreement in 2024. In order to discuss the details of this partnership, a delegation from NUAA came to visit the University of Debrecen recently. Vice President Shi Daning and his colleagues were welcomed in the Main Building of UD by Vice Rector General Károly Pető, Director of Coordination and Strategy Okszána Kiszil and Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Zsolt Tiba.
NUAA, which belongs in the top 1 percent of China's institutions of higher education, operates as many as 23 institutes (including those of aeronautical engineering, energetics and energy engineering and mechanical engineering) as well as 200 research centers and laboratories (including, for example, one on unmanned aircraft research and helicopter technology). Its researchers, teaching faculty members and students have produced more than 40 unmanned aerial vehicles for China since its foundation in 1952. They have also been involved in the development of "Kun Long" [Kun Dragon], the world's largest amphibious aircraft, which took its maiden flight in 2017. As a recognition of its teaching and research activities, it has been awarded the rating Double First Class, which is only granted to 147 of China's 3,000 institutions of higher education.
“Our education portfolio offers 67 bachelor's and 48 master's degrees as well as 21 doctoral programs to our students. We currently have almost 40,000 students enrolled, but the number of international students is still low. We want to advance in this area, which is why our mission for this year is determined by internationalization efforts,” said Dean of the Faculty of International Education Liu Changjiang.
Relating to this objective, Vice President Shi Daning proposed the launching of dual degree programs in addition to mobility and exchanges to be introduced in undergraduate, master's and doctoral programs.
“The University of Debrecen is open to the widest possible student and researcher mobility opportunities, as well as to the development and launching of dual degree programs. There are already good examples of such programs available at the Faculty of Economics and the Faculty of Agriculture, Food Science and Environmental Management,” said Vice Rector Károly Pető.
The meeting was concluded after the determination of the following steps of the negotiations. Further details of the development of training in the field of engineering will be worked out by the experts of NUAA with those of the Faculty of Engineering.
