Uzbek minister in the University of Debrecen

Abdukodir Toshkulov, the Minister in charge of higher education of Uzbekistan and Szilvássy Zoltán, rector performed negotiations on Saturday about the educational, research and innovation cooperation with the University of Debrecen. The Minister asked the University to take part in the work of the emerging Uzbek scientific and technological cluster.

The Government of Uzbekistan and the University of Debrecen signed the cooperation framework agreement in Budapest, in the 6th Meeting of the Hungarian-Uzbek Intergovernmental Committee for Economic Cooperation. According to the agreement, the University provides scientific support in three areas, i.e. biotechnology, pharmacology and agriculture, and within the framework of the agreement it became possible for Uzbek students and lecturers to get the knowledge necessary for the dynamic development of the areas above in the University of Debrecen.

During their Saturday visit, Abdukodir Toshkulov, the Minister in charge of higher education of Uzbekistan and Shohruh Akbarov, the head of department of the Ministry in charge of higher education consulted Szilvássy Zoltán, rector and Kiszil Okszána director of coordination and strategy about the progress of the common work and further fields of cooperation.

- This meeting can further promote the common education and research activity performed on the basis of the last year’s agreement and can open up further opportunities. The University of Debrecen performs exemplary work in the field of healthcare industry, biotechnology, pharmacology and agriculture, and it can be a great support for the development of Uzbek higher education, Abdukodir Toshkulov said. The Minister expressed his great pleasure to meet the heads of the University of Debrecen personally as well after the online meetings of the previous years.

The Minister stated the establishment of a new Uzbek scientific and technological cluster where they count on the participation of the University of Debrecen and their outstanding experience in this field. The Pharmapolis Innovative Pharmaceutical Cluster directed by the University of Debrecen, which ensures knowledge export in the field of herbal medicine and the mastering of the development of the technology of and small molecule medicine production, provides great help for the common work.
Szilvássy Zoltán, rector said to the hirek.unideb.hu: it is a great honour that the Uzbek Minister personally inquired and consulted about the further cooperation opportunities before the meeting of the two countries at Head of State and Government level.
- Our relationship with Uzbekistan is excellent. In addition to education and research topics, such as joint trainings, student-lecturer mobility and research cooperation, collaboration is ongoing in projects for industrial development and innovation, as well as in the introduction of the cluster system in Uzbekistan, said the head of the University.
The discussion included the agreements concluded last year with the Tashkent Chemical Technological Institute, the Tashkent Pharmaceutical Institute and the Tashkent State Agrarian University, which aim the common master training offering a double degree, and the parties continued negotiations to make the trainings of the University of Debrecen be available in the future in Uzbekistan as well.
