More than 60 institutes, departments and research groups have indicated that they intend to participate in this year’s programme.
All faculties of the university will contribute to Europe’s largest science communication event series, and interested visitors will be able to catch a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the world of science on all campuses in Debrecen and in Agora Science Centre in Debrecen, as well as in the city of Nyíregyháza.
“There will be no shortage of novelties this year either, since for the first time in its recent history, horses will actually have the main role in ‘Lovarda’ Cultural and Conference Centre, converted to its modern function from a military equestrian facility. In a manner that is not in the least bit unusual, Bud Spencer fans, for example, will be able to find out more about the favourite dishes of their actor, as well as the history of those dishes, courtesy of the Department of Italian Studies, with the chief ingredients supplied by the pasta bridge building team of the Faculty of Engineering,” as Zsuzsa Mándy gave a “taster” of the programmes. As the organiser of the programme, working at the Scientific Directorate of the university, she also added that registration to the events subject to registration is open from 9 September on the website http://www.kutatokejszakaja.hu/2016/.
The European Commission launched this initiative more than ten years ago in order to familiarise young people with the option of academic careers, to popularise natural sciences and to show that being a researcher is an exciting challenge. The University of Debrecen has been participating in the event series for the past 10 years.
