The staff members of Odessa National University of Technology visited the University of Debrecen as part of an international credit mobility program. Their delegation was headed by Olga Olshevska, Vice-Rector for International Affairs, and Nadiia Dets, Vice-Rector for Education. The representatives of the Odessa partner university were given an insight into the teaching and research activities at the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences and Environmental Management and the Faculty of Informatics. The delegation also visited Food Innovation Centre of the University of Debrecen.
Dean of the Faculty of Informatics András Hajdu told hirek.unideb.hu that the shared objective would be to create mutual synergy, and that the most important focal areas of cooperation in the field of IT could be those of cyber defense, robotics and artificial intelligence.
“It was the leaders of the University of Odessa who approached us because they wanted to know how our faculty works. Building links between institutions is always an important priority, as we are looking for opportunities where it is possible to complement each other's research and development. This university in Ukraine is primarily involved in the field of cyber defense and robotics, so it is only natural that they were also interested in our scientific results, research directions and teaching practices related to these areas as well as artificial intelligence-based technologies. We expect that they might get involved in the work of our faculty and, to this end, we have started to build contacts, taking into account the currently rather difficult conditions in Ukraine. They definitely appreciated our efforts to be at the international vanguard in the field of artificial intelligence and praised our achievements in industrial relations, the high quality of our teaching background, the development of curricula with industrial partners, and the state-of-the-art infrastructure. Our goal is to create an ecosystem in our faculty that can provide high-level developer-researcher expertise in both cyber defense and AI. We intend to focus on each other's strengths in order to complement each other as much as possible in the various areas of IT,” said the head of the faculty.
UD’s Faculty of Informatics, with its roughly 3,000 students, and the Odessa-based Ukrainian university, with around 1,000 students majoring in computer science, have been working together since 2022 in a credit mobility program, in the framework of which students, teachers and staff from both universities can apply for and receive funding for mobility projects. In the field of informatics, online cooperation is also fairly easy to implement.
In addition to the academic and educational focus areas, these two institutions plan to jointly organize and host the annual international scientific student competition called Black Sea Science, in which the Faculty of Informatics of the University of Debrecen would participate and contribute in the category of information technologies, automation and robotics.
