TAPI support offered for purchasing laboratory equipment

TAPI Hungary Industries Kft. has recently supported the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Debrecen with two million HUF. The company’s contribution has been used to purchase laboratory equipment.

There is a close partnership between the pharmaceutical industry and the University of Debrecen to provide more practice-oriented education for future professionals, as exemplified by the HUF 2 million grant provided by TAPI Hungary Industries Kft. to support the practical training program of students of biotechnology enrolled at the Department of Molecular Biotechnology and Microbiology of the Faculty of Science and Technology, UD, and to assist in the purchase of equipment for the laboratory work of PhD students in genetics/microbiology.

TAPI Hungary Industries Kft. was established in December 2024, after its parent company, Teva Pharmaceuticals, announced its intention to sell its active pharmaceutical ingredients business at the beginning of last year. The company currently operates as the domestic active pharmaceutical ingredient producing company of Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. The cooperation between Teva and the university dates back to several years ago, and TAPI Hungary Industries Kft. is also intent to maintain this good relationship. Its representatives have recently visited the University of Debrecen, where Head of the Department of Molecular Biotechnology and Microbiology at the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Debrecen István Pócsi gave them a tour of the laboratories, where the students had already been able to use the new equipment.

István Pócsi highlighted that the department he is the head of has received valuable and continuous support from Teva and TAPI Hungary Industries Kft. for the establishment and launching of biotechnology majors and for ensuring that the conditions for practical training within these majors is available in line with the standards of the times. He said he hoped that this financial contribution would continue in the future and that the traditionally good working relationship could be extended to other areas of education and research.

During the course of the visit, Richárd Kedei, CEO of TAPI Hungary Industries Kft., congratulated on the outstanding instruction work at the biotechnology BA and MA degree programs, and indicated that future graduates would be welcomed at TAPI as potential employees.

In addition to manufacturing, another key area of TAPI's activities is drug discovery and development, whose head, Zsolt László Kovács, shared the following:“Since TAPI is involved in the development of fermentation technologies, it is of special importance for us to keep up with the latest developments in the field of biotechnology. We are convinced that active cooperation between academia and industry is key to the development of biotechnology in Hungary.”

The next important step in this cooperation will be the event Biotechnology at the University of Debrecen – 2025, International Symposium, scheduled for the fall of 2025, where TAPI will be represented by giving several presentations, showcasing its R&D activities and experience in industrial applications.
