The Graduation of New Medical Doctors

Seventy-one would-be physicians took their oaths on Saturday at the graduation ceremony of the University of Debrecen. Two Hungarian and two international students received their diplomas with summa cum laud grades.

With the event of the Faculty of General Medicine held on 10 December, the winter series of graduation ceremonies started at the University of Debrecen. At the ceremony, 33 Hungarian and 38 international students received their medical degrees, after they took an oath that they would use their knowledge of medicine for the prevention of illnesses, the physical and psychological well-being of their patients and the treatment of illnesses.

László Mátyus, dean of the faculty, wished the graduates success and perseverance in practicing their chosen profession. László Csernoch, vice-rector for scientific affairs, encouraged the new graduates to always remember their oaths at the difficult moments of their lives and careers.


At the ceremonious council meeting, special awards were also given. Ilona Kovács, received the title of titular associate professor of the university for the versatile and high level of support she has provided for the educational and research activities of the Faculty of General Medicine, and for helping faculty members and students in their academic work.

For his decades of outstanding work in the Institute of Biophysics and Cellular Biology, József Harmati received the “Excellent Employee” award. Two students were awarded Certificates of Recognition by the Student Government of the University of Debrecen for their outstanding public activities in the previous year.
