In the framework of a 7-year programme launched in 2015, Chinese high-school students learned Hungarian in China for 2 years, then for one year in Debrecen. After that they will study for another year in Beijing and come back to Debrecen for 3 years, where they can participate in any academic programme of the Faculty of Humanities. At the end of the 7-year programme, they obtain a BA degree.
After Elek Bartha, vice rector for educational affairs, welcomed the delegates of BISU, the Chinese vice rector also expressed his pleasure with the improvement of the cooperation between the two institutes. Vice dean Péter Csatár talked about the BA programmes of the Faculty of Humanities, and explained that the faculty seeks to provide programmes that will be really useful for students.
In the framework of the 7-year experimental programme, Chinese students will continue to study Hungarian at the Debrecen Summer University, which will also take care of the administrative issues of students. According to plans, Chinese students will study at the Faculty of Humanities, where they will learn about Hungarian culture, and may get an insight into European history, which will help them find a job later, even in Hungary.
Closing the discussions on 31 October, the Chinese vice rector said he was pleased with the results and was willing to continue the cooperation. According to plans, the 7-year programme remains a joint project of Beijing University and UD. In addition to the already existing areas, the Chinese guests were interested in English and American Studies, as well as the economic programmes of UD, and MA programmes may also become part of the project in the long term.
Currently 21 high-school students and 17 university students are attending the programme of the Summer University for one year. Those who studied here last year are studying in China now, and will return after a year to attend a 3-year programme in humanities and obtain a BA degree.
