- In addition to the extensive, long-standing, successful network of Western contacts, the University of Debrecen has placed great emphasis on developing an increasingly comprehensive partnership with Eastern countries in recent years. Our institution has an active relationship with Vietnam, and the country’s ambassador to Budapest visited our university last October. The declarations of intent for cooperation we have now signed aim to support research and development primarily, but they also facilitate student, researcher, and teacher mobility, said Zoltán Szilvássy, Rector of Debrecen University, to hirek.unideb.hu.
The framework agreements were signed on the occasion of Vietnam’s Prime Minister, Pham Minh Chinh’s arrival in Hungary, during his visit to the National University of Public Service. At the event, Vietnamese and Hungarian universities made in total ten bilateral and multilateral cooperation agreements. The institutions involved are, among others, Vietnam National University, Thai Nguyen University and Hanoi University, and from the Hungarian side Debrecen University, the National University of Public Service, Budapest University of Technology and Economics, the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Óbuda University, Eötvös Loránd University and Semmelweis University.
In the framework of mutual scientific cooperation, the institutions have agreed to launch, among others, double degree courses and scientific exchange programs, to organize seminars and conferences, and to publish joint articles.
Pham Minh Chinh, head of Vietnam’s government, praised the new declarations of intent for cooperation between the Hungarian and Vietnamese universities and said that young people can promote and further build scientific cooperation by building on the partnership created by inspiring each other; and this is also possible between countries that lie so far from each other as Vietnam and Hungary.
