Teachers of physics, chemistry, biology, IT, math, and complex science presented the most recent best practices in methodology at individual stands or in the framework of workshops, small-size seminars, and spectacular on-stage shows at Agóra Tudományos Élményközpont [Agóra Science Center] between October 7 and 9 under the aegis of Science on Stage 2016 Hungary.
“At the University of Debrecen, which is an institution of higher education also specializing in teacher training, we strongly believe that we turn out would-be teachers who will continue to be committed to their chosen vocation even after graduation. We know for a fact that you can become a successful teacher only if you love both your field of expertise and the practice of teaching,” said László Csernoch, Vice-Rector for Scientific Affairs, at the Friday opening of the 2016 event.
Gyula Szigeti MD/PhD, Vice President for Research and Development at Nemzeti Kutatási, Fejlesztési és Innovációs Hivatal [National Research, Development and Innovation Office], added that education itself needs to be made attractive, so that a natural scientific approach could evolve in students interested in science. To this end, the experience acquired at the festival could also prove to be essential.
“The management of Debrecen is fully committed to support innovation, which is why we have been eager to undertake the task of hosting both the present preliminary rounds and the future finals of this international competition,” said Vice-Mayor of Debrecen Szabolcs Komolay.
Together with those who have qualified through these national rounds, there will be about a total of 300 teachers coming to Debrecen for the finals out of almost 30 different countries next year.
“During the course of our work so far, we have established contacts primarily with cultural institutions, and we are also involved in close cooperation with the University of Debrecen. Agóra, however, as the most recently inaugurated center for the dissemination of scientific knowledge in our city, is also ready and willing to join in this effort,” said Director Edit Bódor to unideb.hu.
The Managing Director of Főnix Rendezvényszervező Kht. [Főnix Public Benefit Event Organizer Ltd.], responsible for preparing the 2017 international event, underlined that hosting these qualifying rounds could be considered as a test run for the upcoming international finals next year, since taking care of the arrangements for Science on Stage 2017 is going to be both a novelty and a challenge for us.
