- For decades, the University of Debrecen Clinical Centre for Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery has provided very high quality regional patient care, acting as a true central clinic. This is largely due to the innovative approach of the clinic's management, which has led to the introduction of several new diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and new catheter techniques in recent years, further strengthening the centre's character. The University of Debrecen and the management of the Clinical Centre support the modernisation efforts of the clinic, as a result of which we will soon announce new infrastructural developments, which will represent a significant step forward in the field of catheterisation, especially in the field of heart valve diseases, Zoltán Szabó, Vice-Rector and President of the Clinical Centre of the University of Debrecen, emphasised in his welcome speech at the opening of the event on Thursday.
This is the 29th time that the Cardiology Clinic has organised the Debrecen Cardiology Days, to be held this year between 6 and 9 March at the University of Debrecen. The aim of the thematic development conference is to discuss the latest knowledge and experience in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases.
- Owing to the dynamic development of cardiological science, we can now treat cardiovascular diseases more and more effectively. New drugs have recently appeared, for example in cholesterol therapy or in the treatment of heart failure, and the possibilities of catheter-based treatment of valve diseases and other organic heart diseases have been expanded, with the Debrecen Cardiology Clinic at the forefront. The TriClip procedure, for example, is currently only performed here in Hungary. During the catheter procedure, staples are placed on the valve on the right side of the heart to stop the blood flow from the ventricle back to the atrium," said Zoltán Csanádi, Professor and Director of the Department of Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery at the University of Debrecen Clinical Centre, and chair of the conference.
The conference will review the results of the past years and discuss European recommendations.
- This year's programme has been designed with a focus on presenting new knowledge on major cardiac syndromes that is relevant to daily practice. The meeting will cover coronary heart disease, heart failure, lipid therapy, as well as the most important co-morbidities, diabetes, hypertension, obesity and impaired renal function. Interestingly, the conference will be the first to discuss alternative forms of smoking, the dangers of electronic cigarettes," said Dániel Czuriga, Associate Professor, Specialist in Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery at the University of Debrecen Clinical Centre, and Secretary of the conference.
At the professional programme, which will last until Saturday, the doctors of the University of Debrecen Clinical Centre for Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery will present some interesting and instructive cases from the past year.
