Doctoral students from both Hungary and abroad in the Pharmacology and Microbiology Section presented their research in twenty-four presentations at the Faculty of Pharmacy.
- I am convinced that higher education is inconceivable without doctoral programs, one of whose key missions is to train the next generation of scholars. We are proud that at the Faculty of Pharmacy, we support a large number of PhD students and show them the possibilities for careers as academic researchers and instructors. We work with outstanding, talented students, some of whom became involved in research as early as high school through the National Academy for the Training of Scientists program and then continued their studies at our faculty. As dean, I consider it an important part of my role to support their talent in every way possible: by ensuring appropriate research and working conditions, facilitating their participation in conferences, and supporting their advisors as well. In doing so, it is no secret that we aim to collaborate with our corporate partners as well- said Ildikó Bácskay, university professor and dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Debrecen, in an interview with hirek.unideb.hu.
In the pharmacology and microbiology section, the students’ fields of study are extremely diverse. Among other things, their research topics include pharmacology, pharmaceutical technology, pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmacognosy, pharmacovigilance—which deals with the safe use of medications—and various areas of medical microbiology. The symposium is mandatory for doctoral students, as this is where they report on the progress of their research.
- We hold an annual symposium where every student is required to present their research project and provide an overview of their work to date. They also prepare a written report on their findings. The research work is evaluated partly by the advisor and partly by the section council. During this process, we also assess whether the research is progressing at an appropriate pace and whether any intervention or additional professional support is needed. Fortunately, this has not really been necessary so far, as the majority of the research projects are progressing at an appropriate pace and with good results- emphasized Eszter Csoma, associate professor, secretary of the Doctoral School of Medicine at the University of Debrecen, and organizer of the symposium.
At the University of Debrecen, the Doctoral School of Medical Sciences was established on September 1, 2025, through the merger of the doctoral programs of nine doctoral schools and a tenth school. Currently, 45 students are enrolled in the doctoral program in the pharmacology and microbiology section.
Depending on where their advisors are based, they conduct their research in various institutes and departments across several faculties, including the Faculty of Pharmacy, the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Science and Technology, and the Faculty of Health Sciences.
