The sports ecosystem of the University of Debrecen is exemplary among institutions of higher education in Hungary. There is no other university in the nation where sports facilities, sports clubs, competition organization and higher education would be present in such a tight unity as in our city. This is what Chancellor Zoltán Bács called the participants’ attention to at the event called Sport Forum Hungary 2023 on Thursday.
At this international sports event, which was held for the second time, profound insight was offered into several details of domestic sports life during the three section sessions and roundtable discussions, including the current opportunities of sustainability and operation, the processes and innovations of sports marketing and management, as well as the development strategies in a variety of branches of sports.
“Sport is a strategic sector at the University of Debrecen, where a number of academic disciplines can find their way to sport. Our institution is more than just a university: it offers a singularly broad range of educational, research and service portfolios in Hungary, accumulating a significant amount of value for Hungarian sport,” emphasized László Balogh, Director of the Sports Science Coordination Institute of the University of Debrecen, who also gave a highly successful presentation at the event. He added that the knowledge capital that the University of Debrecen, which belongs to the top 3 percent of the world, can provide as a so-called High Performance Centre can be used excellently in elite sports.
In addition to the leaders and experts of the University of Debrecen, our students also participated in the event. At the exhibition accompanying the forum, where UD was the only higher education institution present, the representatives of Hungarian and foreign sports management, trade associations as well as minor and major companies could get acquainted with the sports science programs and innovations of the University of Debrecen, such as the stress-holder and the rapid health assessment system.
The forum, which was held in the capital city of Hungary, ended with a series of award ceremonies, where gold, silver and bronze category awards were handed out in as many as eleven different categories. At the Sport Forum Awards, DEAC fencer and student of the Faculty of Economics of the University of Debrecen, two-time adult world champion at age 20, Sugár Battai was voted Most Valuable Athlete of the Future.
