The Faculty of Economics Honors Its Graduating Students

During the spring semester of the 2025/2026 academic year, more than 550 students at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Debrecen fulfilled the requirements for graduation and received their diplomas on Friday in the Ceremonial Courtyard of the university’s Main Building. At the ceremonial faculty meeting, Dean Veronika Fenyves announced that the faculty’s program portfolio will be expanded with a new master’s degree program.

“The University of Debrecen has always been proud of its historical heritage, which defines its very identity. Continuous development is an integral part of our self-image, which means, on the one hand, diversifying our educational offerings and, on the other hand, expanding the circle of active, recognized professionals at the faculty. In the fall of 2025, the first class of the Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) program began its studies at the Doctoral School of Management and Organizational Sciences. “Our wide range of corporate partnerships allows us to maintain professional relationships which, in turn, help strengthen the practical quality of our programs,” said Veronika Fenyves, dean of the Faculty of Economics, in her ceremonial welcome address.

At the ceremonial faculty meeting, the dean announced that, in response to the ever-changing demands of the labor market, the Faculty of Economics is launching a master’s program in Lean and Operational Excellence Management. In addition, the faculty plans to introduce courses within the professional economics curriculum that explore the business and financial applications of artificial intelligence.

“Throughout your education, our instructors have strived not only to impart specialized knowledge to you but also to develop your competencies. This way, you will be able to acquire the ever-evolving professional skills demanded by the job market on your own in the future. Together, we have laid the foundation for your knowledge, upon which you can build your specialized expertise in collaboration with your supervisors at work,” Veronika Fenyves concluded .

In the spring semester of the 2025–2026 academic year, 72 students in higher education vocational training, 275 in bachelor’s programs, 281 in master’s programs, and 52 in specialized continuing education programs met the required final exam criteria. Awards were presented before the students took their oaths.


Based on a recommendation from the Council of the Faculty of Economics, recognizing his outstanding work as a teacher and researcher at the university over several decades, his pioneering contributions to the field, his work in educational administration, his national and international professional standing, and his wide-ranging involvement in public life, the Rector and Senate of the University of Debrecen has awarded the honorary title of Professor Emeritus to András Béla Nábrádi, a university professor.

Levente Szabó, CEO of KITE Zrt., was awarded the title of Honorary Professor by the Faculty of Economics at the University of Debrecen. The title of Associate Professor was conferred upon Klára Boruzs, assistant professor at the Institute of Health Economics and Management, and Gergő Tömöri, assistant professor at the Institute of Accounting and Finance, Department of Controlling (non-independent division).

Károly Pető, Director of the Institute of Rural Development and Functional Management and former Vice Rector for General Affairs, was awarded the Pro Auditoribus Universitatis Debreceniensis Prize, established by the General Assembly of the Student Government of the University of Debrecen.

Fanni Farkas and Vanda Bodó received Certificates of Recognition from the Student Government Executive Board, while Mátyás Bodogán and Syeda Ghania Firdous Afghan received Certificates of Recognition from the President and Vice President of the Student Government.

Károly Mihály Nagy was awarded the title of Outstanding Student of the University of Debrecen.

András Béla Nábrádi, a professor at the Institute of Business Administration, was awarded the Pro Facultate Prize. Veronika Fenyves, a professor at the Institute of Accounting and Finance in the Faculty of Economics, received the Dr. András Kozma Award, while Krisztián Kovács, an assistant professor in the Department of Agricultural Economics, received the Dr. Béla Kádár Award.


The faculty awarded the Pro Educatione Oeconomicae Prize to Szilvia Vincze, director of the Chancellery’s Web Portal, Application Development, and VIR Center and head of the HIS Competence Center, as well as to Christa Sára Pfau, associate professor at the Institute of Sports Economics and Management.

The Pro Meritis Interfacultatis Award was presented to JABIL Circuit Hungary Contract Manufacturing Ltd., Marianna Móré, dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, László Stündl, dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Food Sciences, and Environmental Management, Miklós Kiss, attorney, and László Kőrösi, Director General of the National Health Insurance Fund.

The Faculty of Economics’ Outstanding Employee Award was presented to Tünde Majorik, Szilvia Bernadett Munkácsy, and Gergő Komócsin administrative experts of the Faculty’s Academic and Educational Department, as well as Marianna Zemán, acting expert at the Center for Economic Terminology and Communication.

Ildikó Páricsiné Dajka, Director of Human Resources at the University of Debrecen, received a Certificate of Recognition from the Faculty of Economics; Attila Péter Szabó, Associate Professor in the Department of Epidemiology at the Faculty of Health Sciences and Director of the University of Debrecen’s Szolnok Campus; and Katalin Gargya, Acting Expert and Erasmus Coordinator at the Center for International Relations.

This year, the Dr. János Felföldi Award was presented to Barnabás Sarkadi, a certified supply chain manager who earned his master’s degree in supply chain management.

The following individuals received Certificates of Recognition from the Dean: Erzsébet Tünde Buglyó-Nyakas, teaching assistant at the Department of Logistics Management (non-independent department) of the Institute of Rural Development and Functional Management; Andrea Gáspár, assistant professor at the Department of Micro- and Macroeconomics (non-independent department); Katalin Éva Pozsonyi, Klára Nagyné Bodnár, Ágnes Réka Suhaji, and Eszter Júlia Vajdics, language instructors at the Center for Economic and Technical Communication, Nikolett Balsa-Budai, assistant professor in the Department of Commerce; Péter Czine, assistant professor at the Social Sciences Coordination Research Center; and Zsófia Olvasztó, teaching assistant in the Department of Human Resource Management.

The Teacher of the Year Award was presented to Dóra Fruzsina Sipos, assistant professor in the Department of Quantitative Methodology, and Andrea Boglárka Panta, master’s instructor in the same department, for leading the best seminars of the year in Hungarian-language undergraduate programs; and to Tímea Lázár, a language instructor at the Center for Economic Terminology and Communication, and Veronika Véghné Madarasi, a teaching assistant in the Department of Management Science; and for delivering the year’s best lectures in foreign-language programs, András Kun, a professor in the Department of Human Resource Management (non-independent), as well as Ágnes Bakosné Kiss Virág, assistant professor in the Department of Marketing, for delivering the best lectures of the year in the Hungarian-language undergraduate program, and Ádám Márkus, assistant professor in the Department of Global Economics and International Business, for delivering the best lectures of the year in the Hungarian-language master’s program.

This year, the Faculty of Economics’ Certificate of Excellence in Sports was awarded to Zoltán Hetényi, a certified sports economist and member of the national ice hockey team; Aliz Zöldi, a certified sports economist and DEAC tennis player; Zsombor Álmos Iván, a certified sports economist and track and field athlete; and Dávid Tőzsér, an economist and homegrown player for DVSE.

Géza Novák, Director General of the Central Statistical Office, and Ákos Szabó, CEO of Tranzit-Ker Zrt., received the Faculty of Economics Outstanding Alumnus Award. The Faculty of Economics Outstanding Alumnus Award was presented to Ildikó Edit Tikász, Deputy Director and Scientific Advisor of the Directorate of Agricultural Economics and Information Systems.

The Faculty of Economics’ Outstanding Internship Site Award was presented to Debreceni Sportcentrum Köszhasznú Nonprofit Kft. and Harro Höfliger Hungary Kft.

At the commencement ceremony, Associate Professor Viktória Vida, the new head of the Department of Business Economics, and Associate Professor Beáta Bittner, program director of the Master’s program in Business Development. Additionally, Kata Földi, associate professor at the Department of Commerce, and Katalin Vargáné Csobán, assistant professor at the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management—who was also appointed department chair—were appointed associate professors.

At the ceremony, twenty-four students were recognized with certificates of recognition from the University of Debrecen’s Talent Development Program, thirteen students received commemorative certificates from the Károly Ihrig College of Applied Sciences, and eight students were awarded commemorative certificates from the Debrecen Youth Committee of the Hungarian Economic Association.
