In the academic year 2018/19, students from more than 100 countries, for the first time also from Mongolia, arrive to study in Debrecen. Nigeria continues to represent the largest number of students. Out of the 680 Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship students, 250 start their studies after finishing a preparatory course. The rest of them are self-paying students studying in foreign languages.
The number of foreign students is constantly growing at the University of Debrecen: it has grown fourfold over the past 15 years, moreover, the number of sending countries has doubled.
- The very first year of fee-paying medical students doing their studies in English graduated in 1993, exactly 25 years ago. Today, the University of Debrecen is one of the most popular higher education institutions chosen by young foreigners studying in Hungary, because most of the students studying in English are studying in our institution - Attila Jenei told hirek.unideb.hu portal. The director of the International Education Coordination Center emphasized that from the 14 faculties of the university, 13 programmes are chosen by foreign students. The most popular ones continue to be: medical, engineering, economy, IT, dentistry and pharmacy.
Overall, about 4,500 foreign students , about 17 percent of the students in the country , are expected to continue their studies at the University of Debrecen from Fall 2018.
