The delegation members came to the Dermatology Clinic from one of the largest burn centers in Slovakia, the Burn Centre in Saka, on the outskirts of Košice. Staff from the Burns Department had already visited the Slovakian medical institution a few months ago for a similar professional meeting.
At Friday's programmed in Debrecen, Hungarian and Slovak experts gave presentations on the latest developments in burn care.
Among other topics, the possibilities of reconstruction, the development of dressings and technologies, the prevention of sepsis and the most modern surgical solutions for the treatment of severely burned patients were presented. Participants also discussed their experience of day-to-day patient care through an interesting case study, and the experts from Kassa toured the department, which has been in operation for more than forty years.
- The exchange of ideas is also important as a venue to discuss how we solve more complex cases and what solutions we apply to the problems that arise. We can learn from each other and even apply some of the lessons learned to our own daily practice. Both institutions have extensive international contacts and are part of the European network of burn centers. We use the most advanced procedures in the Burns Department of the Dermatology Clinic and in the Burns Centre in Slovakia, and we are open to technological developments. An important part of our professionalism is teamwork, the joint, mutually supportive work of doctors and nurses, and the recognition of this," Professor István Juhász, who headed the Burns Department for 25 years between 1995 and 2020, told hirek.unideb.hu.
Foreign experts have come to the Burn Department to exchange expertise and experience with Hungarian colleagues from Graz, Hannover and Linköping, among others, but the Slovakian institution has developed the closest professional ties with our clinic.
The Burn Department of the University of Debrecen Clinical Centre was established in 1983 at the Department of Dermatology. The specialized department treats the full range of burns, from minor burns to severe, life-threatening conditions. In addition to the acute care of burn patients, the department is also responsible for reconstruction and surgery for skin tumors. Since 2020, the specialized department has been headed by Zoltán Péter, clinical chief physician.
