EuroSkills Göteborg 2016

A “Medallion of Excellence” was awarded at Europe’s largest skills competition to two of our students from the Faculty of Engineering, University of Debrecen, Dávid Balázs and Krisztián Zilahi.

On 1–3 December 2016, almost 500 young people up to the age of 25 from as many as 28 countries all around Europe met in Gothenburg, Sweden, to compete for the coveted title of being the best in Europe in their 37 chosen vocations.

Hungary was represented by 16 competitors in 14 vocations, including practitioners in health and social care, cabinet making, joinery, painting and decorating, hairdressing, welding, ICT, bricklaying, mechatronics, restaurant service, cooking, beauty therapy, electrical installations, and floristry, among whom we were happy to note the mechatronics duo made up of Krisztián Zilahi and Dávid Balázs (a BSc and an MSc student in mechatronics from the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Debrecen), who had also been the recipients of an award for excellence in 2015 in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

The host city for the upcoming competition to be held in two years’ time from now is going to be Budapest, for which reason the representatives of the Hungarian team at the closing ceremony on December 4, in addition to their awards, also received a flag and a key symbolizing the status of the next host and organizer of EuroSkills, which is scheduled to take place in 2018.
