Erasmus – Discover Europe!

There are over 400 European universities that offer programmes for students of the University of Debrecen in the framework of the Erasmus mobility programme. Internship programmes are also available in the participating institutions of 34 European countries.

The range of universities and countries involved in the Erasmus programme has expanded in recent years. This year, 490 universities in 57 countries are available to students. UD students still prefer Germany, Spain and Italy. Besides improving their language skills, they can also gain great experiences.

- In addition to EU member states, UD scholars can also participate in programmes in Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, North Macedonia, Turkey and Serbia. In Germany, Spain and Italy 61, 38 and 38 universities are involved in the programme, respectively. Most students prefer European universities due to the benefits of the Erasmus programme that was launched more than 35 years ago. Geographical and financial factors also matter. They all want to gain experience abroad, improve their language skills, and have a good time – explained Péter Gara, Erasmus coordinator of the International Office of UD.

Máté Benedek chemistry MSc student spent two months at an Italian university in the Piemont region.

- The Università degli Studi del Piemonte Orientale Amedeo Avogadro gave me a new perspective and opened new horizons. The two-month internship did not affect my studies, as I was there from early June to August. I made many friends. At work we used English. Outside of work we communicated in Italian. I think that I took full advantage of this opportunity. In addition to the improvement of my language skills, the programme gave me more than I had expected – Máté Benedek told hirek.unideb.hu.

Erasmus students have access to leading European universities. Réka Németi, who studies psychology at UD, had an opportunity to study in South Korea and in Spain.

I decided to participate in the programme as early as in my high school years. I wanted to see the world, far-away places. I spent a semester in Spain. Besides my studies, I travelled a lot with my new friends on weekends. We are still in contact, and when we can, we visit each other. The Erasmus programme is a great thing – added Réka.
