Still among the best

The University of Debrecen has kept its last year’s position in the recently published list of Times Higher Education, which ranks the universities of the emerging economies. The ranking was released on Tuesday evening.

This year’s first international list of Times Higher Education, on which 442 institutions of higher education universities of 43 countries are included, the University of Debrecen was ranked in 201-250nd place. According to this year's survey, the strongest pillar is international connections embeddedness. It is an encouraging sign that in four of the five evaluation criteria, including research revenue, the institution has been able to improve on its last year’s scores.

- The management of the university finds it important to maintain the rating of the university, with particular attention to the aspects of internationality, citation and publications - Pintér Ákos told hirek.unideb.hu. The vice rector for general affairs emphasized that improving the quality of periodicals published by the university is a high priority.

Every year the ranking is based on the learning environment, quality of research, number of citations of publications related to the institution, market income and international instructors' and listeners' number. Besides, factors that reflect the features of the emerging countries' universities and their development priorities – e.g. industrial contacts, international perspectives – also receive special attention.

The Tsinghua University has topped the list, the best European institution is Moscow State University, and Charles University in Prague has achieved the best results in the region, the 53rd place this year. Seven Hungarian universities have been added to the list.
